A mate of mine has just seriously damaged his 911 turbo frown We were debating if it will be a rightoff. I think it will but he was arguing that it is only written off if the repair costs exceed the value of resale? Is that true?

a car can be written off even if the cost of the repair does not exceed the value, they take into consideration the extent of the damage ie chassis etc, the cost to repair, and what they would get for the salvage against the payout to the insured,

That's what I thought Rick. I would estimate he has done at least 25k of damage all told and the car is worth maybe 45k trade.

Ahh

I wrote my 996tt a little while ago. See what the insurers say, mine did get bashed at the front, but also told them it bounced down at the back very hard which didnt cause any visable damage but I assured them it will have done something to the engine due to heavy fall at the rear.

So he needs to tell the whole crash. I got full pay out of purchase price (2nd hand car) from NU direct. so they did make me very happy.

and the cost of replacement hire car, administration of the claim, etc, etc

hope he gets it sorted in his favour
