its often that we get the moaning on here when a dealer (or specialist) hasnt delivered the goods, so I thought it would make a change to have some positive feedback.

I needed a wheelbearing on the front of my Vantage, so got in touch with Rick at DMS in Derby earlier this week, who managed to fit me in today, fit the bearing and advise on a few other minor niggles.

So thumbs up to Rick - its nice to have some good old fashioned service from a man who obviously cares about the cars hes working on and takes pride in his work

I shall certainly be going there in future for my servicing work smile

I live near Preston and Rick collected my car, fitted a new clutch, returned it on time with an excellent job done and a bill considerably smaller than a main dealer. Top man!

Are we allowed to ask how much the clutch change was?

And how many miles the car had done?

I have looked at this post a few times and must admit i felt uncomfortable about replying,

Thank you for all the comments, we are in a small niche market that only survives on reputation, we are quite a small independent which include myself, kay my wife who sorts out the admin and a great young lad called ben who takes after my values, no fancy toilets or tiled floors just a few ramps and a passion to do the job right, we do understand the majority of our customers live and work a long way from us, some we collect, some meet us half way and others take the trip and enjoy a day out in Derby, All of this we are really grateful for, blimey i get to work on fantastic Aston Martin cars and get paid for it (my dream job)

Franchising the issue i have with this is i do not get to work on the car personally or even supervise, this said if i come across someone who has the inclination, skill and that important ingredient passion then perhaps this may be an option,

if you do not wish to travel to the middle of the country then drop me your details as i can recommend several people who do share the same passion Aston Martin Dealers and specialists just let me know where about's you are,

As always advice is free, on here by phone or email

Thanks again it makes the long days all worth while.

this clutch replacement was under 20000 miles (not down to current owner) ***** don't drive with foot resting on clutch, sat in traffic use the handbrake especially on hills******

we have many V8's that have done 40k plus with no signs of requiring a clutch

standard price as a guide including genuine Aston martin parts (clutch, slave cylinder, flywheel) labour and vat is £1700.00

Thanks Rick. I'd heard 2-2.5k from a dealer so 1.7's a fair bit better.

Out of interest

- how long does it take
- what are the typical signs of it going?

labour time is about 10 hours, we can turn it round in a day but prefer two, don't worry about the smell uphill in reverse or under a bit of aggressive driving this is quite normal, the usual first signs are when you are in third or fourth and accelerate hard revs increase but speed does not, This also may not mean you need a new clutch under the bell housing there is a little plate held in by two 8 mm headed bolts dust and debris can build up between the clutch and flywheel, so remove the plate, blow out with and airline, this can make a big difference, someone needs to be in the car with the foot on the clutch while carrying out this procedure(please follow health and safety i.e face mask and well ventilated area)
