I sold my Aston
Discussion
After just 4 months of ownership my V8 Vantage Roadster has gone....
Rolled out of the drive on Tuesday......so will hopefully find another good home soon as it's back in the classifieds already (I sold to a dealer)
Overall I would say I was glad I owned an Aston but the ownership experience wasn't as good as I expected it to be I won't dwell on the neagtives, but the positives......
It looked amazing and attracted admiring looks a lot and the odd comment too
The sound was awesome with Fuse 22 removed
The interior was a lovely place to be on the whole
So, now on the hunt for another (not an Aston I'm afraid).....will most likely be back into a 911 or maybe scratch that Ferrari itch
A nice choice to have to make though.....
Thanks to all on this part of PH who provided valuable knowledge

...or maybe scratch that Ferrari itch ...
4mths! You were barely getting to know the car! That said, I would be inclined to scratch the itch. Worth it if you get the right car.
I sold my DB9 after 4 years of ownership as I also have a manual 997tt cabriolet which I rarely used due to using the Aston as a daily driver. Now that the Aston has gone (and I loved it) I intended to buy another (DBS or Vantage V12) but now that I use the Porsche as the daily driver I must admit that it grows on me day by day. The roadholding going round corners is out of this world compared to the Aston which was very tailhappy, the damping is much better and the build quality in a different league. I will try the Vantage V12 but once you get used to a Porsche which is such an all round package it is difficult not to appreciate this car. That is also why there are so many around.

I must admit that I don't get the Porsche thing myself - but I fully understand that this is my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own I have an Aston for the whole experience - for me it is not just the roadholding, etc. Aston ownership is about more than the technology to me. There are so many Porsche around that no one takes any notice of them - in essence to most people they are no longer special, just a run-of-the-mill car. If I just want performance with ride and road holding, I'd buy an M3 or RS4 (or in my case I bought a CL55 for pure day-to-day GT quality) and save myself a few quid ....
i owned 14 new Porsches (911Carrera/Turbo/Turbo cab - 928 GTS, 993 Cup, 993 Turbo, 356 A ex works racers etc. etc.) before i started to buy english only...... all i can say is that the *Gaydon area* are one of the best build cars in term of quality and by far less plastic than a standard 997.....
I have a DB9 Volante ( manual ) and had a 997 before that and before that I had a boxster which I have kept and despite it being 10 years old it provides open top driving thrills the Aston can't on twisty roads or in town driving practicality where the Aston is frankly a pain because of poor damping.
That said there is nothing like the Aston when you want to go for a fast cruise or frighten yourself with too much power or just enjoy being in control of one of the most beautiful pieces of automotive art around , hearing the noise and seeing other people admire and enjoy it.
So the answer is get a porsche for your city centre commute and get an Aston for the rest of your life

... but on a purely rational basis ....
Cars like the Aston aren't "rational" though. And I suspect that's why petrolheads yearn for them. Same goes for Ferraris. Lambos etc IMO.Std Porsches (i.e. not the likes of the GT3, GT2 etc) don't have that IMO. Extremely accomplished. But much more Audi/BMW/Merc than Aston.
I appreciate that you are not necessarily promoting that viewpoint, but I think that is one of the classic mistakes. Aston had to move with the times and did, incredibly successfully. The V8 has done exactly what the DB4 did for Newport Pagnell cars. In addition, people do talk about dilution of the brand. I don't agree. Relative to the number of cars on the road I think the proportion of nice and interesting machines is about the same.

Same here. My AMV8 coupe went on Sunday. Great to look at, but not as good as I hoped.Overall I would say I was glad I owned an Aston but the ownership experience wasn't as good as I expected it to be I won't dwell on the neagtives, but the positives...

If you're looking for ideas, this is what I replaced mine with. Another itch scratched.
