Hi guys
At the brink of doing a deal with STRATSTONE ASTON MARTIN dealer on a v8 vantage.

They say they have a fix price policy so will not reduce the price. Its 57, metriote silver car etc. Just wondering whats the best way to go about this? any advice welcome

Thanks

the usual way - tell em your not going to buy it LOL wink

then go somewhere else if they cant do anything for you

its not as if there is not plenty of choice out there...

...maybe their sales are high and they are willing to lose sales over a few grand etc ?

..if I paid full price, id at the least Id want something thrown in with the car...

I bought mine from Stratstone - at the time Vantages had been out < 16 months and new ones were still at a premium price, so I was quite happy to pay £18K under the new price for a year old/6K mile car

however they still did me some extras: re-painted the wheels, security film on the windows, paint protection and a free day out with hospitality at Millbrook driving various Aston Martins whilst I waited for the car to be prepped

....so id be surprised in the current market if you cant get *something* in with the deal....

for starters tell them you want to go on the next experience day at Millbrook - so you can drive their Vantage/DB9/DBS etc around Millbrook for a day and have a nice lunch smile

They are trying it on, I had this recently and did a deal so good the car (Maserati) is now being sold for 5k more than I paid for it six months ago!

5k more now? ...doesn't that suggest that there is more buying interest and less supply, hence the confidence of the Stratstone salesman?

I'm sure you've seen what's out there in the market and got an idea of price. Assuming you're not in a hurry, I'd suggest putting in relatively low offers for a couple of cars, measure the response and you'll get an idea where the value is. If they're sold then ask if they wouldn't mind telling you what it went for or if it was close to the asking price.

Of course buying privately will get you a discount. The web version of Parkers price guide will give you a good idea of private vs dealer sales values. In fact their prices tend to be insightfully accurate..

You could of course just man up and lift the first one you see, stuffing a load of £50's in the salesman's mouth... oh no wait, you're buying an Aston, not a 911

Spot on and well done on the deal. Find another car similar, go and see it, tell them that the one you have looked at has been offered with a discount. See if they move, then go back to your dealer and tell them you have been offered a better deal. I would also be looking a lot of freebies chucked in but then again i'm a nightmare to deal with.

I have noticed that the prices have gone up though. Was looking at a new XK and all the pre reg offers have just vanished. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi Guys
They will not budge, to be honest its quite reasnabily priced compared to whats on sale.

They are chucking in 10,000mile service due in 4 months, out door cover and some pure guard protection. Been looking for a while and prices have definetly gone up and not many available privately. They also offered very competitive finance deal aswell.

More then likely going for it tomorrow morning and get my deposit down. Will update with some pics etc later this week

Thanks

Good man.

Always pays to be honest with one's self about when you have a deal.

The bits they've chucked in are worth a about a grand. And you now get the excitement of picking up your Aston.

Note sure about the guard stuff mind. Also, does the car have mudflaps? If not, get them to put them on.

At the thought of losing a deal, Stratstones dropped £3k on their price when I was talking to them.

Ignore the "we don't deal" nonsense, you can't blame them for trying.

I'd expect that anyway..

Woo !

That they're going to make a nice commission on..

Sounds like they're going to make more money out of you than if you just walked in and handed over the asking price in £50 notes.

Then the salesman has got you by the balls and knows it.

Feign indifference. Make a reasonable offer (say asking price minus 3%) and say if they can do it for that, you will sign immediately. Then SILENCE. Do NOT say anything. Only speak if the salesman agrees to your price.

If they still won't budge, give them your number, and ask them to call you when they change their mind. Walk out.

A1, they will budge, not by much, but they will budge. I got that speech on Friday afternoon from Stratstone. I didn't call them on Monday morning. On Monday afternoon, they dropped £1k from the price.

I was just trying to give you some tried and tested negotiating techniques applicable to anybody. I don't see what your circumstances have to do with it. Enjoy! It's your money.

P.S. A mate of mine has an unregistered Vantage Volante which he can't give away. Whatever the dealers say publicly, it is not easy selling high-end motors at the moment.
