I just got my First Aston a DB9 Volante about a month ago, what sort of budget are you working with ? I was amazed at the deal I got and it had some Aston warranty left

Biggest outlay will be 2 rear tyres and 4 days in the detailers putting the appalling machine polish right

High miles shouldn't be a problem, 50k on a modern Aston V12 is nothing.

Have got a budget of 38-39k so as said know it will have some miles but by the sounds of things does not appear to be too much of a problem

Not like your German cars.......they don't stand the test of time quite so well.

Look out for damp and mouldy carpets and baggy leather. Early cars leaked.

These early cars were built and the customers became their test pilots. Much like Ferrari and Maserari.

vpr - do you really know what your are talking about or is it simply a dose of wishful thinking ?.

I had a MY 05 DB9 which was faultless and I guess there were others as well. In general, high mileage cars which are well looked after are generally better than 1000 miles per year garage queens. If the car has been well looked after and had all its services I would have no hesitation in buying a MY04 or MY05 car as all the small early gremlins would have been ironed out.

Completely agree with you clorenzen, nearly all of the work i do on the DB9 and the V8 vantage is standard servicing and normal wear and tear such as brakes, and the other repairs are usually to cars that are not looked after and abused, yes Aston owners are more critical than most over squeaks rattles and blemishes, but this is because they take great pride in owning an Aston, I really would not be put off by a higher mileage car, it just means it has seen more sMILES

Well....that depends on whether you think the last 30 years of my life surrounded by prestige performance cars has any relevance or not.

VPR, point accepted, but with the Gaydon cars, Aston Martin has bucked the trend with their cars. You cannot compare the reliability of the DB7 and Vanquish cars with those of the Gaydon cars. It has to do with the fact that volumes are up and that Gaydon mostly is an assembly plant of components bought in from various suppliers. I have been there, and it doesn't look like your normal car manufacturing plant. I have owned 4 Porshes, a number of BMWs and Mercs and 4 RRs. From a reliability point of view the 997tt and the Aston were by far the best with no unscheduled visits to the dealer over a 4 year period. The BMW X5 was by far the worst.

Well ... that depends upon which Gaydon cars you have had experience of in the last 30 years ... wink Your point may come across as more relevant if you were to back it up with the particular car(s), problem(s) and length of ownership ....

I have a 9 year old porsche which is more resolved than my 3 year old DB9 but they are both well made reliable cars - you need one of each laugh
