Success of private selling a Vantage?
Discussion
Considering my options of private selling versus dealer sale OR maybe even not at all.
I'm lucky enough to own both a TVR Tuscan S (one of the last ones made) which has been superbly faultless and also a Aston V8 Vantage.
Originally I had bought the Vantage to be my only car as it satisfied my need for luxury, looks and speed. Thus selling on my TVR.
Unfortunately the market for expensive TVRs is gone, everybody wants a bargain basically. My car sat at a dealer on a Sale or Return basis for a good few months without a sniff.
Thus I'm stuck with both cars (bummer I know)
I'm having to consider the option of trying to sell the Vantage and wondered how others have been getting on in the current climate?

My experience of trying to sell high end cars via private adverts has always ended up with a lot of hassle from people who want to steal it for less than trade value or advertisers trying to take more of my money! I always end up punting around the trade until some one makes a fair offer!
The only time it has worked for me is if I have used the specialist owners mags, like Porsche Post or AMOC, these seem to partly avoid the scammers, tyre kickers & wrong uns IME!

agreed ...I mean how many people out there turn up with £50-100K cash to buy a private car these days ?....most real buyers want the dealers finance facilities for starters, few people with the funding sorted out to even buy private, wouldnt necessarily bother for the few grand saving vs the risk of a private sale ...The only time it has worked for me is if I have used the specialist owners mags, like Porsche Post or AMOC, these seem to partly avoid the scammers, tyre kickers & wrong uns IME!

Lots of dealers will. Just because you're advertising privately, doesn't mean you're going to attract only private buyers. I've sold 2x Ford GTs, 1x CL65, 1x Ferrari 550 (and loads of other stuff) from private ads, but they all went to dealers. There were plenty of private AM Vantages on Autotrader up until recently. But since the shortage they're being snapped up, now there's just 3 private ads.
Offering it to a dealer is always going to result in a lower price than if they contact you.
I'd put it up for a reasonable asking price and let the dealers call (and they will)
