Can anyone tell me what the likely noise levels are from my '08 AMV8 Roadster ?

Have tried looking at the technical specs on the AM website to no avail.

I have got Fuse 22 removed but imagine this would be very easy to put back in should I need to.

Am looking to do a trackday with a 102db static and 87.5db driveby.........imagine std set up it should be fine but with the fuse removed may be higher ?

For the driveby I guess short shifting will help ?

Cheers

You'll be fine; I took mine (exhaust valve switch 'open') round the Zolder circuit last June, where there is a 95db limit.

No-one bothered me, but a couple of the TVRs were black-flagged wink

Wow, that;s great news.....just assumed that as it sounded loud, it must be loud laugh

Will book myself onto my first track day in the new car spin to test it out before the 'Ring in May rotate

They are OK for most track days, corked or decorked, as you spend most of your time past the valve opening level. At 4750rpm on a cold day I had mine static tested at Goodwood and it was 98dB, and I have had no issues with the notoriously anal drive by meters at Bedford.

Bear in mind that above a certain number of revs, the exhaust is "decorked" anyway, regardless of fuse since the fuse just controls the opening and closing of the bypass valve (fuse22 out and the valve stay open at all times) ..... so the noise level above that point in the rev range will be the same regardless ....

Very good point and guess as it kicked in at 4K ish revs anyway I should be OK.....

I believe that for the coupe it peaks at 96db at 6k rpm (though stand to be corrected).
Mine (also without fuse 22) sounds louder to me than my 911 turbo did, though that registered 99.8db at 4k rpm! I guess it's my ears playing tricks, possibly due to the fact that the V8 sounds so much better smile

Mine too sounds much louder than my 911 (only a C2) hence my thoughts it might not make it through........it does sound sooooooo much better though smile

There's an interesting table on the Quicksilver site which shows db at various points in the rev range for the standard system and their sports systems:

http://www.quicksilverexhausts.com/productbulletin...

Standard system according to them doesn't go above 96db.

I had noise issues on both my porkies on the static tests as the engine noise is also much nearer the noise meter, so it takes the engine noise and exhaust noise into account more than a front engined car.

I did Snetterton 2 years ago - they test it static, 5K revs (so valves are open) and it was just fine ...it really isnt *that* noisy, whereas some tuned 4 pot engined cars with Janspeed exhausts were failing on the day

I really wouldnt worry, even with the fuse removed (makes no odds really as they test at high revs) a Vantage passes all the noise regs for a road car, the tracks dont have noise limits where regular road cars get kicked off ...if you fit a "sports exhaust" to any car though, beware if you want to go on track as they are getting tighter

try Aston Martin on track - organised by AM, you should get the details through from them if you express an interest via the website ...its more expensive than just turning up on a free for all day, but at least you are with like minded owners, not kids in £1000 bangers who DGAF wink

Ive been in a club for years - www.lotus-on-track.com as I used to have an Elise that I tracked/sprinted regular, I always go on their days as they are safe, courteous, well organised, and reasonably priced ...you dont have to own a Lotus, thats just how it started - well worth joining, cant really go wrong on one of their days, as a newbie you will get free compulsory instruction first also smile
