Normally I love to clean my cars but sometimes they just need that extra touch and with it being Onyx Black
I thought I'd treat the car to a detail. I specifically wanted to get rid of the swirl marks and small scratches
that are on it.
After looking round and comparing costs I went with Tony at http://www.autoshinespecialistvaleting.co.uk/index...
I have to say I was amazed with the results and the work carried out plus I got my car's picture on the website which is always nice too see.

Nice one, I had mine booked in with Tony about a month ago but had to pull out due to work commitments. Now my car is at the dealers for another couple of weeks having some warranty bits attended to but as soon as I get a free slot I'm let him know.

I've seen a number of pics of your car on Boxa.net

Yeah the guy who had it before me used to put it through Sainsbury's car washcry

which was the main reason behind getting Tony in to get rid of the marks.

I know this guy personally and the job he does is simply breathtaking. I'm getting my AMV8 done in the next month or so:

The chat is that the Onyx Black paint suffers the most.

Ditto the above - Gurcharn is the best in the business.

I had mine done a couple of months into ownership as it looked like it had been through a car wash ! ...would be about 2 years ago now...at www.gtechniq.com

its like a full detail, but lasts years rather than months as its some polymer coating they use on aircraft n yachts n stuff smile

Im very impressed with it too as it still beads water now, Id have any car done there in future and save myself the hassle/expense every few months...

up North £60 for a "detail" as in someone washing and cleaning inside n out properly and a coat of wax, up to £250 for a full job with de-swirl (machine polish all over)

I was referring to paint correction as the car at the start of the thread - about £250.

Aston Works offer paint correction for about £900 which is about right for their inflated prices!
I believe via a proper detailer you would expect to pay upwards of £500.

I've used G from www.elitedetailing.co.uk on all my other cars and the work he does is simply stunning - the amount of time and effort he puts in really shows through on the results.......the new car is due to have his special treatment in the not too distant future.....he too has told me Aston Black is a hard paint to work with but I have absolutely no doubt he'll get it looking amazing smile

obviously its all labour rate dependant as per the Works example...the top detailers in London working on £150K plus cars daily are charging £400 and upwards

my semi-local man in a van detailer is about 1/2 that, covering Lincs/Notts/Sth Yorks ...in fact I know he does a lot of jobs down south, charges .40p a mile travelling, and is still cheaper than some of the southern based guys smile

Technically it's the lacquer he's working with; which is the same regardless of the colour of your V8V.

I am very pleased with the results I get on the Aston just with my own efforts. A good rub over with some Clay and Quick detailer (as a lubricant), followed by ScratchX to remove any swirl marks, then a coating of decent Carnauba Wax over the top with some more Quick detailer to take the wax down to a flat level does give me a very decent shine. I use the Meguiars stuff.

Would I see any tangible difference in getting a "detailer" to do it as I am guessing they use much the same process?

Cheers,
Matt.

For me the main reason behind getting in a proffesional was the machine polishing stage. Machine polishing
is the only way to get rid of the deeper swirls and scratches and yes I am very happy with the results but the guy who had my car before me didn't really take good care of it so it was needed.

I a word - TES.

It's astonishing the difference a couple of days with a rotary polisher can make to them finish.

..perhaps I should buy a rotary polisher if it makes that much difference!? scratchchin I did spend about 2 hours on the bonnet of the Aston alone (by hand)

If you do buy one i suggest you practice on a different (less valuable) car, one mistake and it could cost a respray.
