I have recently bought a private plate, and after making full payment and sending my V5 etc, I was told by the broker they still need to wait for the seller to send in documentation.

Is this standard, I would have expected the broker to have requested all documentation before selling the plate to ensure the seller actually owns the plate.

Does anyone know if the broker does any checks prior to advertising a plate? how often does a sale fail after the price has been agreed and payment made? does the seller have a legal agreement with the broker?

I don’t want to have plates made up and change insurance doc etc, to find that the seller doesn't own the plate or is suddenly uncontactable.

Was in a simalir postion when we bought ours with REG TRANSFERS. They did it similair way but did mention if the seller changed his mind the money will be fully refunded.

Pretty smooth process. I would wait until you have the paper to hand before getting plates made etc

Hope that helps

You need the paperwork (certificate of entitlement I think it's called) before a reputable company will make the plates.

I bought one via newreg - paid in full, they got the plates made and they were delivered - and then a few days later the seller changed their mind - very annoying. To be fair the broker were as annoyed as I was about it, and I did get all my money back right away but not really what I wanted.........

This is my biggest concern. How often does this happen? Anyone else experienced the same?

Ive had a few plates advertised with different companies. there a nightmare when you no longer want them to advertise the plate with them. so hard to tell them to stop advertising them.some have terms to screw you for advertising them if you don't sell but then they wont accept the fact you no longer have the item for sale...
if you ask for a quote they wont stop pestering you and advertise it regardless.
some ask for stupid money
ie;i just wanted to get rid of B4OYE £100 would of done it so i could put the girlfriends plate on the car, it was advertised at £1100 and never sold within 6 months so i sold the car .
I have E4 MPW on my vanquish but want rid of it quick, so i an put mine the car. OFFER?
dont you just hate giving them back to the D.V.L.A.

OK in English

They (the plate dealers) can and DO waste the time of both the seller and buyer very often in my experience
