Hello! I'm looking at buying a 2006 V8 Vantage from a private seller, and as it was registered in March 2006 I assume it is March this year that the warranty expires. I've heard that it is possible to extend warranties with AM for £1250 a year, but is this possible even if I was the third owner? Also, Ive read elsewhere that it cant be renewed within 3 months of the original warranty expiring. Is this true? Think I'd like to have a full extended AM new car warranty as piece of mind and also for resale value! Thanks!!

dunno about the 3 month limit, price seems about right, although I think Ive heard something about having to pay for a dealer inspection before they will warranty it, which may be a few hours labour. Of course if yhou buy from a dealer then the warranty/inspection is built into the price, so Ideally you want to be paying quite a bit less for a private purchase...then it may be due a service too - so do your maths first as theirs lots of dealer bargains out there now smile

Would be interested to know about the 3 month rule as my warranty is up for renewal in April.

The manufacturers warranty expired jan 26 for my vantage I extended this for one year for £1250 and this warranty is as for first 3 years .It requires an inspection check to do this but it was done foc when I had the three year service(cost about £850)
The warranty must be renewed before 3 years is up to get the complete cover. If renewed after the expiry the warranty is not as extensive more like an insurance and we all know how good they can be.
I hope this helps. sorry if my writing is clumsy I`m a scientist not an english graduate.

Thanks very much for the reply Apotek! Did you buy your extended warranty within 3 months of the original warranty expiring then? Cheers! Dom

the factory warranty is just that - an extension to the same one for the 1st 3 years so covers pretty much everything other than consumables ...not sure what the insurance one will cover, if you dont continue the factory one immediately - youd have to go into a dealer and get a copy of the contract I guess ...Im not sure there are that many of us (yet) on here that have had one since 2005 ...I didnt renew the warranty on mine at all, but more due to personal reasons than anything - the car is unused, and I cant drive due to an accident, maybe not for another year, its bad enough having to service it when its not going anywhere wink

Thanks very much that'd be great! I want to continue the new car warranty rather than one of those insurance type ones, just need to double check I can do that up to the date the old one finishes and that there isnt a clause that it cant be renened within 3 months of the original warranty expiring. Cheers!

Renewed mine last month (well in advance, but at service to avoid the inspection cost - they forward dated it March though) Only exclusion I could see was rattles/hinge adjustments - apart from that basically everything/unlimited. Also price seems pretty good compared with other makes...

You have to renew before manuf warranty expires.I think the only exclusion are wear and tear items eg clutch plate brake pads
best of luck John

I extenede mine for an additional 2 year when I purchased the car.
It has now got approx 3 year warranty left on the car.
Cost £1250 per annum + £545 inspection fee.
However I was recently informed that the extended waranty is not as extensive as the original 3 year waranty. It does not include issues relating to the leather interior etc.
I will check with HMW and will endevour to get a list of items which are included and excluded.

At each service so far mine's had a squeak at the front of the dash. And it's still there now.

IF I extend the warranty, I'll be making sure they cover this! I have no issue with cover changing, but issues (no matter how minor) that were there since new should be covered until they're fixed.

i had a similar issue with my sl55 amg merc. had a rattle they couldnt locate which was covered under the original warranty but when the renewal warranty started i was told that if they couldnt find the problem or if the fault was not covered under the extended warranty then i would have to pay all costs. This was despite the fact that they had tried and failed to fix it whilst under the original 3 year warranty.

i bought mine from stratstone and as part of the negotiations got them to extend the warranty by a further year, ie from its expiry in july 09 till july 2010. they'll all be desperate for your business so if you do buy from a dealer make sure you get that thrown in to (it's a much lesser cost for them than it is for you).

stratstone have covered everything on the car - squeaks, rattles, prob with the handsfree, just having the steering rack replaced at the moment...have had 1000s of quids worth. i'd certainly make sure you get it extended even if you're buying from privately and have to pay the £1250 - they are cars that have niggles from time to time in my experience - though, of course, worth every penny!
