I am getting board with my 911 C4S and am considering a change to a V8 Vantage. Has any one made this move? What are the must have options ect. It would be a used example I was considering.

I came from a 996 turbo and it's far, far more fun (though a lot slower).

Options: mud flaps.

I made exactly the same move from a 996 4S and absolutely adore my V8.

Mine was also second hand and came just about fully loaded.

I haven't for one second regretted anything about it, and much prefer the public's well-documented perception of the Aston over the Porsche.

I've done it twice 996TT - 4.3 coupe - 997GT3 - 4.7 Roadster.
Porks great, but so is Aston, completely different beasts but I highly recommend you give an AMV8 garage room, its a must do experience if you are a car enthusiast wink!

Very interested in this thread as been thinking of moving from a 996 Turbo to an AMV8 myself.

Can the guy's who've made the same move expand a bit on the above re performance, the 'feeling it gives', the 'sense of occassion' etc differences between the cars.

I always felt like; whilst the TT is superbly fast, it sometimes 'too good' and I miss the sounds and raw feeling of my Cerb/Tuscan and there seemed little sense of occassion/passion - but I have used it every day for last 4yrs

All been said before if you search but hope this helps....

Hi S1M, the reason the move works is because they are both so different, so you don't directly compare. As has been written many times before owning the Aston is a more emotive experience, you feel special every time you look at the stunning looks & detailing or sit in the hand stitched interior with those jewel like dials, it is such a thing of beauty that you will want to sleep in the garage, sounds silly but its a set of emotions that the Porker doesn't bring out! Is it as good to drive, ultimately no, but it has a totally different feel, certainly not fast in 4.3 form, but the sound from the exhaust is a revelation after the Turbo, as is the lack of lag, then it has near perfect weight distribution & you sit low in the centre of the action, so feel part of the car as it flows much better than the Porker down an open sweeping B-Road. At 7-9/10th's the Porker is the better adrenalin pumping machine, at lower commitment levels the pleasure of the way the Aston flow's & the sound of the exhaust etc makes the driving experience swing the Astons way!

I simply loved my 996TT awesome car (once I had fitted the sports exhaust that is)it doesn't so much accelerate as warp from one place to another. Like you I had it years & couldn't find a replacement, frankly it is the better drivers car compared to the Aston. But I also feared for my license, as speed/acceleration is its main fun factor. Also every car I had purchased up until that point was faster than the last. In the end I ordered a 997GT3, but traded into an AMV8 coupe for 10 months while waiting to try it, I am pleased I did!

All I can say is after the 997GT3 (which I LOVED) the Aston called me back again, so that say much for its charms as I am a long term Porker owner, I'm now in a 4.7 Roadster.

Only thing I would add, is try the roadster, I have never owned a soft top up until now being a driving enthusiast, but the Roadster is so rigid you can have your cake & eat it & the roof down experience does add to the enjoyment of the car, while further distancing it from the Turbo!

You sound like the perfect candidate to try a V8.

Don't test drive it politely for 20 mins - you need to grab it by the scruff to see what it can do.

Yes.

Only really manifests itself fully at low revs. I think it's more an over-damped peddle/poor throttle mapping personally.

Either way, it's not something that kills the car (in the same way that, say, the light steering in a 355 doesn't ruin that either).

Take a test drive. You'll notice pretty much immediately if it's something that will annoy you.

I'm the guy Aston Martin had in their sights when they created the V8 Vantage. 4 time Porsche owner, all 911's, 2 coupes, 1 cab, 1 TT. Spectacular cars, everyday drivers all. 90,000+ miles on each one. No complaints. Also no comparison. After 5 months of ownership and 7,000 miles, I can't stop driving the damn thing. I find the Aston SO much more interesting. Power. Beauty. Soul. Couldn't have said it better myself.
