Has anybody swapped their Aston for a Bentley? I'm really fed up with the utter unreliability of my V8 Vantages; they are nothing but trouble [first one back to the dealer 7 times, this one twice so far..]. I'm thinking about swapping the Vantage + a BMW X5 (on a 54 plate) for an '08 Bentley Continental GT. Any feedback on the Bentley?

It's ugly as sin.

If you're 60+ and like sheepskin coats, it'd be a maybe. Otherwise surely not...

Are the faults all the same on the Vantages or "random"? Are you buying them from the same dealer? Are they checking them out properly? I know it's no consolation, but mine's only suffered minor niggles and nothing that has left me without its use in nearly 2yrs and 20k miles.

The Continental GT is a beautiful driver, seriously quick, very luxurious and could perhaps be considered the supercar bargain of the year. Not German reliability, but a friend has one and it seems more reliable than my DB7.

Im not turning this thread into depreciation flavoured but you have to be bonkers buying a GT on an 08 at the moment!

If you can get a cracking deal on it then go for it but other wise... frown Watch out...

To be honest the Bentley is a brilliant car, that's why they have sold millions of them. The thing is though you will look like a footballer or a WAG. It's a shame really because they are good cars, but even a mini is more exclusive nowadays.
The other thing to remember is that the prices are still falling and i reckon have still got a bit more to go before it levels off. Also it isn't exactly beautiful to look at is it.

I'm not sure about your budget or exactly what type of car you are looking for, but have you considered the following:
Maserati GranTurismo (59k-onwards for a year old or 18 month old one
Porsche 911 carrera s (anywhere from 40k-80k)
Also i doubt you would want another DB9, but they are very good cars (55k onwards)

These are all rough figures by the way.

Hope that helps

A friend had a GTC. He thought it was a great car to drive but would be the first to admit that he could walk away from it without a backward glance. I can't do that with my DB9.

I think it also fills a different niche to the AMV8. It is a big, luxurious bruiser of a GT vs a more nimble sports car. So not a straight comparison.

Some great comments so far, guys! Thanks for that.

We've a 9 week old daughter so I need a car that can take a baby-seat. We tried to get it into the back of my chum's DB9 - no chance! I think it needs to be 4 doors so perhaps the Continental GT is a no-go due to only having the two doors.

Might have to wait until Aston come out with the Rapide - but a bit pricey at £140k....

You can't fit a baby seat into a DB9 unless you leave the mother at home - so don't go there. I have looked into a GTC as well as it offers adequate rear seat space but somehow I can't let go of my DB9.

A Ferrari 612 is another alternative. It ain't pretty but residuals are at level where it could be worth a try.

If you are looking for a stylish 4 door saloon then there is only one option - the Maserati Quattroporte. wink Far more discrete than a footballers Bentley or yet another Ferrari - all IMO of course wink

Nice suggestion, I love the 612, i dropped into a Ferrari dealer recently and inquired about running costs etc of a large v12 ferrari. They were frightening to say the least! Although if you could afford it a sterling suggestion there sir.

A used Maserati Quattroporte would be my choice (let someone else that the depreciation hit!), or an AMG S-class ....

The Quattroporte is a stunning car, however you really have to wring the neck of the V8 in it which is at odds with the nture of the car. A supercharged V8 in a Merc such as the CLS55 would be my preference. That said I'd have a Continental GT regardless of the image perceived by others.

That Porsche Panamera looks pretty tasty as well..... Shame they're not yet on the market.

Or perhaps the BMW X6 is worth a second look...? Only joking!
