N400 with Quicksilver Sports
Discussion
just to say what a lovely combination this is, driving is like a big go kart and the sound, the sound is so deliciously scrumptious. Having tried out an 06 and 07 model I was just not quite happy with the power or delivery but the N400 really does the business. It's still not the fastest car I've driven, the GT2 Porker is that, but for real joy of ownership I choose the AM. So, if you've tried out the original spec and think you need a little more do seek out an N400 and try it for yourself. I'm so pleased that I did.

Assuming you can find one of the 480 made .... Currently considering purchasing an N400 roadster. Drove one this week, however I was not that impressed with the drive. It felt better developed and more responsive than my 07 coupe. However did not really feel noticably faster, just felt easier to drive, especially on the motorway. Could not really justify changing my car for an N400 apart from the future rarety value of this model.

I'm away for a few days I'll try for a sound clip and pics when I get back.
btw it's my view, fwiw, that if you need a faster car you'll need to look outside the AM range, in part it is the linear power delivery that fools the senses plus the AM's are such civilised cars. We all know that you soon get used to having the power, in fact I drive slower today than when I had Lancias, that shows my age doesn't it, but sight lines with re-action time are important I feel.

everything is relative performance wise ...and the way a car engine is mapped can give the sensation of more performance and speed - just take a Honda VTEC, Toyota VVTI or even a Porker engine ...when theres a stepped change in power delivery it gives the sensation of going quicker, even when you are not.
Thats the problem - Aston mapped the V8 completely linear and smooth, so no surges of power im afraid.
Hence you can read a review on other identical performance cars, say something like an M3 or RS4, 996 etc and they are described as "silly fast" "awesome" etc yet just because the Aston costs more money, but performs just as fast then its described as "not fast enough" "not enough performance" etc
any car that does a ton in under 12secs is fast, the 4.7 is under 10secs now, other than silly German saloons with big engines, thats a tiny amount of cars on the market like that...so plenty fast enough
of course you can go faster, cheaper, you always can - faster than a Veyron for 1/2 the price = no problem, faster than an Aston for 1/2 the price = no problem....but thats not purely why you buy those cars
anyway, ive digressesed - glad to hear that you are happy with your car and exhaust combo

I've done about 1300 miles now and it's still pretty quiet. I was at a party with some neighbours a few days ago and they commented on how quiet the new car was. I thought that they were hinting that the old one was too loud and apologised.
However, they said that they actually missed the sounds of the 4.3 and asked why I had bought such a quiet replacement. They said they loved the sound of the old car and it used to remind them to get a move on in the morning when I left for work!
It might be a little louder than when I picked it up but I can still feel a replacement heading my way. The extra power, however, that is very noticeable. In fact, getting the power down on the damp roads is a bit of a problem at the moment.

just looking through your site was your MG lola 675 LMP at the goodwood festival of speed last year (2008)
Owner of Lola bought the car a while ago and had it rebuilt at the factory. It was out in the run around Huntingdon for the companies anniversary though I
havent seen it for quite a few years though I believe its the one I worked on.
If it is it had a pretty big shunt in Miami and ended up looking like this....

Yes, its the car Birraine owns now!
It was loaned to Intersport in the US from Chamberlains when MG Racing didnt have anything for it to do.
Not sure what it cost, but 3 corners, gearbox, engine, floor etc were scrap. Thankfully I was spannering on it and not paying for it. I"d guess at about $100,000 US for repairs (at the time)
