"No wonder DAR <the Kuwaiti investment people> want out. Burnt your fingers there boys! It's even better than oil <assuming this is a reference to the current oil price being quite low?>."

Jochen does sound like he has links with people who work at the factory. He also has a fundamental lack of grip on reality with respect to the oil industry as I very much doubt the people who own the resources could be considered as having their fingers burnt!

It's very sad that some people have lost their jobs. And I also find it unfortunate that the bosses of companies in such times seem to get away free of any hassles. Though some thoughts for you Jochen:

1) Without these people investing when they did, more people may have lost their jobs sooner.
2) I imagine the bosses you deride have also lost money (share price movements). Granted, they may not exactly be on the breadline. But that's the way things work in a capitalist economy. I have a much bigger issue with the BSD's that have got the banks into so much trouble (which ultimately fuelled our current predicament).
3) More and more people will be feeling the pain of statutory redundancy payments over the next 12mths. People seem to think there's an obligation for much bigger pay outs, but there isn't.

Hopefully the people who remain at the company will be able to weather the storm and still have jobs when the recession passes.

wow man,.....i`ve just looked at your posting history and you are on a one man mission!!you sound like a stuck record mate , with your "champagne lifestyles" and your "2500 unsold cars".i can only assume that you are one of the unfortunate ones and i feel for you, i really do.however,as an employer myself,i can see the flip side of the coin.as an impartial observer i would rather see aston axe 600 jobs and secure the future of the company than go down the road of unnecessary cash bleeding only to go bust and all aston workers get dumped.we live in a free market economy and the simple rules of supply and demand exist.i know what decisions i would make if i found my business in a similar position to aston.you can`t please everyone and i`m afraid there are always going to be casualties in an economic climate like this.

Wise words from Murph and Tuscaneer. These are unprecedented times and for a company like Aston there are no safety nets like the TARP bailout for the US auto-makers. They are being supported as the consequences for the wider US economy of their collapse are, for now at least, unthinkable - widespread job losses for the direct employers, supply chain and local community businesses where they are a dominant industry. Failure of a company like AM by comparison would be a damp squib, affecting relatively few and depriving fortunate individuals (like ourselves here) of the ability to buy what some might consider expensive and unnecessary toys.

The only way they can survive the current economic pull-back is to batten down the hatches and gear production and development according to demand. It would be nice to think that they could be a benevolent caring charity for all their doubtless loyal workers, but the fact of the matter is that paying more than they have to legally would simply jeopardise the future of the company longer term.

Decisions like the ones they will inevitably need to take are not easy and do not reflect a lack of concern or empathy for their staff. Sometimes reality dictates a cold perspective.

Let's all hope for a better 2009

Just a thought referene the "champagne lifestyle". Part of Dr Bez's job is to spend his weekend talking to current and future Aston owners at events (yes, inclduing Le Mans) where he persuades them that they really ought to buy more Astons.

He does this during his weekends, on top of his 5 day week. I know this because I know many owners, who see Aston ownership as part of a large family, and think that every Aston owner has th champagne lifestyle, and will happily buy more cars. So yes, he DOES need to show his champagne lifestyle- for many people, its part of the Aston experience.

um look what happened to TVR foreign investment never stopt that folding,
Cant understand this recession bull, every day things may have gone up but also expensive things have come down in price spent a few more pounds on bills, saved a good few thousand on 2 new cars and tens of thousands on another hoose
but people will live above there means greed wanting bigger and better just don't want to pay for it causing there own down fall.and those who live within them end up footing the bill and getting the bargains
its very unfortunate that the skilled workers and craft men get a rough ride, but as TVR workers they'll change directions and adapt there crafts in to other industries
BEST WISHES TO THEM FOR THERE NEW BEGININGS

Aston Martin is an immortal brand. It may be facing failure, Jim, but not as we know it
