Vantage + Larini backbox installed
Discussion
Right, so my Larini backbox finally arrived from the UK and has been installed. No other modifications done to anything. Nice looking piece of kit, seems well made, and is seriously smaller and lighter than the huge OEM exhaust unit.
Anyways, the long and short is, it sounds the business. Not actually too insanely loud (but with the cats done as well it will just be too loud), but it has a serious boost in bass lower down, giving it dramatically more presence, especially when starting her up and idling (sounds like a sleeping lion waking up, or a Balrog), and then the revs build into more of a crescendous scream up top. Obviously it's all just bigger and louder sounding and makes squirrels instantly self-combust as you go by.
I was quite sceptical about any performance gains being likely, but much to my surprise, my seat-of-pants dyno tells me that there is an improvement in torque across the rev range, and the increase in revs feels quite a lot smoother as it climbs, with much less of a 'step up' in power at the halfway mark. Most markedly noticable is quite an increase in urge between about 6000rpm and redline, it really seems to pick up its skirt and shove off around there!
So all-in, although expensive, I think it's given the old girl some extra legs till we hear more about the V12 Vantage RS.
