Trying to see if the AMV8 will fit in the garage.........

Modern house, long garage (39ft) but not exctaly wide.......911 fits in it fine with plenty of room to spare but is listed at 1770mm wide and form what I can find Aston is 2025mm which equtes by my dodgy maths to about another 8 inches wide confused which seems like a lot - I know the 911 C2 is not exactly fat but this seems like a lot.

Garage is approx 7'1" at opening which seems to only be 2100mm or thereabouts with a little more room inside so seems rather tight

Anyone got any experience of narrow garages and the car ?

I had the exact same questions with I purchased my V8 last year.

Here are correct measurements for the Vantage:
73.5" Wide (Mirrors Folded)
79.6" Wide (w/mirrors Extended)

Your garage is 7.1 = 84" Therefore you'll have 10.5" total clearance
I have 14" clearance and have no issues.

surely the answer is to move the wall so you can have the Aston, no question.

If only wink

Would need to dig out footings for 40 foot along the whole length of the garage and then build it again....sounds expensive....and if I move prob can't afford a new car frown

Several cars I'm looking at, all of which seem to be very tight width wise....I just got a Gallardo in the garage but could only get out with the windows down and allegedly that's only 1900mm wide eek

Folding electric mirrors then and it should be easy (ish) for me smile

Yes, make sure you spec folding mirrors (but I would assume that most cars in the UK come this way)

One suggestion, for quick & easy parking; I tacked a string to garage ceiling with a weighed item to the centre of the drivers position, I just line up and drive right in.

I have been using the garage for the last 3.5 years in the 911 and simply line up the drivers wing mirror and 'know' where to position the rest of the car if that makes sense.

With any new car guess it would just take a bit of practice......

Why not measure the actual dimensions of your garage and post them up...

I think the opening on mine isn't far removed from yours (think I have about 2700mm internal width and the door width brick to brick is 2250mm) and it's fine with the mirrors unfolded.

A roller shutter type door helps as you the frame doesn't intrude into the opening. They're also more secure typically.

Placing a mirror at the opposite end of the garage might help...

The doors are longer on the Aston though. I had a 911 and it was a lot easier to get out inside the garage than the V8

Serious suggestion. Take a test drive in a new one and try it out. Aston are SO desparate to sell at present, they won't bat an eyelid.

The opening is 7'1".....internal width is 8'3" and it's 39'6" long.......

Door is already electric so secure and frame intrudes less than half an inch so roller door won't help much I'm afraid...... frown

Am going to try and go and se one today on my way up to work smile

My double garage has two VERY narrow opening's & I manage to squeeze her in, so you should be ok, but must confess to sweating every time, you simply can't place the car 100% accurately as you can't see the outer edges at all when sitting in the car due to the high scuttle! I actually screwed carpet to the inside of the doors ... just in case the few inches either side were not enough!
What you MUST have is power fold mirrors.

Mmm, I'll know by late this afternoon as one is being delivered but it does not have power fold mirrors as an option and apparently tey can't be retro-fitted frown

And that could be a deal breaker.......as I think I would resent getting in and out of the car every time I had to get in/out the garage..........

I've found best way is to raise seat as high as possible during entry / exit and back to normal for driving - memory seats useful obviously quite useful.

Does that suck the wings in then? Nice trick.

Blimey I dream of a garage opening that wide. At mirror height mine is 208mm (6ft 9 3/4" in old money) wide at the door opening with another 22mm, 8 1/2 " either side once past the door. Wish mine was 39'6" long (size isn't everything! frown )as I've got about 80mm left behind the rear to close the door. Looking at modifying the opening to give it more width and putting a side door into the garage at the exact spot where the Aston's door opens - open garage door, drive car in, open car door into gap now made by open garage side door and get out of car easily. Garage side currently lined with corrugated cardboard - softer than carpet.
Have reversed all the way out once with the mirrors out just to prove to myself it does fit. But normally take it as far as opening with mirros out, flip then in, get past opening then put mirrors out again.
You'll be fine!

Nah, but I reckon he gets stuck in the car for around 10 months each time he tries it biggrin
