Having just had my tyre pressure warning light come on... it got me wondering..

How does the car sense its tyre pressures, clever considering the tyre is always spinning?

there are pressure sensors in each valve in the wheels that commincate with a control box. they go off if the diference is more than a few psi of what the factory/you set it at

That's the precise way to do it. It is also done based on the ABS wheel speed readings. If a tyre deflates the radius changes, so its speed relative to the other wheels changes. Not as precise, but still gives some warning. This is the system on my car and it has triggered with a 3 psi difference in the front wheels.

I'm not sure whuch system the Astons use.

Astons have Smart tire - the control box is visible under the passenger side of the dash

How is the sensor on the valve wired back to the control box? Where does the wire connect, inside the hub of the axle or ??

The readings are sent by radio from sensor to controller (433.92MHz, since you asked) so there are no tricky rotating wire connections.

incidentally my tyre pressure related issue has been resolved by Aston Works. It was a nail!

Dealer had reassured me it was down the cold weather, me not being the trusting type got it checked out and low and beyold it was a puncture.

Not suprisingly the tyre pressure warning is NOT coming on in the cold weather intermittently like i was told it would.
