Neighbour has just been offered £30k as p/x for his early V8Vantage.

So, over a few too many beers, we decided to turn it into 'something different for the weekend'. I've given him half it's value and as I type he is busy ripping out the interior - and anything else that will come away. Lighter wheels, cage, uprated suspension and more power will follow - plus we're going to get some tasty carbon bits and bobs - door cards etc. - made up. GT3s for breakie next year I recon. wink

Will keep you posted.

1st job then, is transaxle out and "flip the diff" !!! (which gives you 30% lock on drive and 10% on overrun, rather than the otherway round as per std) totally transforms the car!!

2nd job is some 100cell cats and a engine recal!

Hells teeth - there's no going back. Just been round for a look and there's a HUGE pile of bits on the barn floor. The seats alone weigh a ton. I left him starting on the headlining. Lovely tailors grey it was too - shame!

Yes Ggggreat, we'll have all the good bits please then your mate can be left with all the parts he could have had from a well used Elise which does the same thing better for vastly less wink.. because it was evolved to meet the brief!

Fish is not Fowl and Peregrine is not Dove and making one look like the other won't change its gene pool!

Hmmm, nearly 100% factory standard N24s don't seem to do too badly on the Nordschleife, though... scratchchin

And Lotusses are not Astons. This thing sounds as if it will be amazing. Please let's see some pictures nerd

Just with all the weight off it will go like stink I imagine, a latter day DB4GT. Loach recently had a thread intended to encourage Porsche to produce a Clubsport 997 Gen2, maybe this might encourage Aston to do the same, an austerity model?

Nitron do some very nice 3-way adjustable dampers with remote reserviors and Eibach springs for £2690 for the N24. They would be very nice on a track toy Vantage

Great concept and hopefully be a pointer to future lightweight Astons, if not, then I'm sure you'll both have fun in the meantime.

Stock comfy spec GT3 available for comparison, and I mean comparison not stripped out competition! biggrin

Pugsey, what a nice project, taking a road car and converting it to a race/track-day car is great fun.
Good luck.

Thanks for the comments/suggestions guys.

Grant, you old misery - you've missed the point SO completely that it's not even worth discussing it with you! But just one of the arguments would go that, following your reasoning, then why buy an Exige when a Radical will do it better, oh hang on a used F3 car will be even, but wait, what about an old F1 car etc., etc., etc.

We're going to keep a photographic record but will prob. post all in one go. I'm off soon for the rest of Dec anyway so having trashed the thing, it'll probably just sit there for a while now. No going back though! smile

Sorry Pugs, you are right the long dark winter months do bring on the grumps, sorry wink!
You have fun with it why not, but personally still don't think the AMV8 suits the stripped out racing theme, all that lovely leather and tasty options trashed for a couple of seconds, a nice 996GT3 will still murder it for less!

Anyway enjoy the process it will be fun to see what you end up with could start a whole new line of business, move over Prodrive...

Did you give a loud cheer when you stripped out the Sat Nav unit? Can anyone think of a use for it?

Personally, I'd rather strap a road atlas to my face with two eye holes!
