Is anyone buying a New or Used Vantage at the moment ?
Discussion
Not such a strange post but really my reason to ask was to determine what prices should I expect to be negotiating when approaching dealers. Thanks
I'm seeing advertised prices from £40k to £57k for 2006/7 not factoring in what they finally end up selling for.
Q2. How reliable are these cars after 3yrs ?????????

What next car
Just sold my 08/08 AMV8 privately. Offers by dealers ranged from 50 - 55k.
As for reliability after 3 years I wouldn't know. 6 months was long enough for me???

its hard to say - how many people have owned these cars 3 yr old from new ?...so many are just "fashion buyers" ....or buy them expecting something different maybe....I mean you see 2 year old ones with 4 owners
mines 3 year old next month ...its a reliable daily driver with 34K on the clock.
Its had lots of problems ..maybe nearly as many as my old Audi or Volvo
The MIL came on once - reset by dealer
the brakes squealed - warranty fix
the gearchange was stiff - warranty fix
errr...other than that, its had nothing other than fuel, servicing and consumables (tyres n pads)
does that answer your question ?
oh im sure out of the thousands of owners, there are a few that have had Friday cars that have had a lot of "problems" ..you will see a few moaners and unhappy bunnys out there ...same with any car really

OK, we have some context.
You can see what cars are being advertised for (on here and on autotrader - plenty around for your research), and taking SL65AMG's numbers you should be able to compare a dealer offer with a typical private sticker price. Generally I'd say a dealer will offer 5-10k less to a private buyer than they will advertise the car for if that helps at all.
Do not expect a private seller to sell to a private individual for the same amount as they may sell to a dealer. Won't happen. You'll need to offer a couple of k more than a dealer would IMO (otherwise they'll just take the lower risk dealer option).
Times are a bit hard for selling cars at the moment, so you may be able to squeeze more out of any deal. My advice, however, would be to understand the market right now by doing your research and not to take the piss too heavily. You may end up missing out on a good car and at the end of the day, the more you kick someone in the nuts now, the more you will likely get kicked later (prices are only going one way).
Reliability?
I've had mine 21mths and it's done 18k miles. It's never, ever let me down. It had a slight oil leak on the timing cover. The dash leather rippled a little. I had a farty noise on startup for a little while (sticking oil pressure relief valve) and one of the door handles needed to be pushed home a couple of times. All of these were fixed without drama at the first 10k service, plus a few other very minor bits and pieces.
If the car's been looked after and serviced properly, and had the various service bulletins attended to, I see no reason why a 3yr old car won't prove very reliable.
It's a quality car. Very understated and elegant, but with a brutal noise and a very rapid turn of pace when you get used to getting the most out of the car.
Porsches are very nice cars, and I will no doubt own one at some point. But I simply cannot envisage them giving me the same depth of ownership experience that the Aston does (with perhaps the exception of things like the GT2 or Carrera GT). In that respect, the Aston is much more "Ferrari" than "Porsche". IYSWIM. Put another way, I'm not sure I'd turn round to take a last look at the Porsche after a spirited drive out. It'd be more "head" than "heart". etc etc.

i've had mine for a grand total of 29hrs and i love it!
not had a single problem in all that time, well, apart from stalling it 3 times when trying to reverse out of a petrol station parking space but i think that was more me than a mechanical fault.
Aston - clutch - reverse = crap (luckilly I don't often need it)not had a single problem in all that time, well, apart from stalling it 3 times when trying to reverse out of a petrol station parking space but i think that was more me than a mechanical fault.
Just bought an 06 plate with 13K on the clock for £45K.
Car has been superb in every way. First thing I did was not to trust my dealer with regards tyre pressure monitor coming on. Instead I got it booked into Aston Works in Newport Pagnell, they sorted out a few minor niggles including replacing a tyre with a nail in it. Service has been brilliant and I even got a tour of the whole service area/restorations/paint/bodyshop/trim etc. Awesome to see.
I also got a 140 point check done at my cost (£270+vat) which flagged up a few issues which were done under warranty. Aston Works puts a lovely sticker on your windscreen "Works Approved" :-)
Very happy with mine, the sound is brilliant and the performance is more than adequate for my needs. (probably get a few upgrades done in the new year though).
