keep loking at these
going for a test drive in the next few days but the only car i can fit in and get my two lads in the back is an auto box version
question is will i be disapointed with the performance comeing from tvr and porsche[is there anything that can do done to them, within reason}
or do i try the v12 auto {not sure i could keep up with the maintenance thought} what is it they say the definition of an optomist is someone who thinks he can just about run an aston

They are not a raw sports car, they are Gt cars. Still quick, but smooth and rapid rather then "fast".

Now the V12 is something else entirely- clarkson prefered one to a F360. The i6 has its own charms, but the vantage is where all the power is. And if you service it yourself, I doubt if there's too mcuh difference in maintenance costs. Just fuel....

The i6 has no performance and will easily be seen off by most of the current crop of hot hatches and jap rally machines. It would be seen off by them on acceleration, braking and handling, but you might be ok on top speed wink

In short, if performance is your thing, buy a hot hatch or a Subaru, you will go quicker than an i6 and you can be assured there will be plenty of room in the back smile

Don't know if that helps, but it would do it for me smile

Twit. There is a lot more to life then top gear lap times- girls, for example. Or shaving... Besides, a Caterham would be quicker then all those you listed. And nonw of them are Aston Martins.

The OP was asking about performance, nothing more, nothing less, so why don't you keep your comments to yourself !! Your reply is as pointless as it is stupid.

Btw, who under the age of 70 uses the word twit anymore hehe

Fair enough if you are over 70, and if you are, it would maybe go some way to explaining your inability to read properly. Maybe you need your reading glasses or something ??

Btw, if a car is the only way you can get 'girls', then you are a lost hope, and any 'girl' that is only interested in a man for his car isn't the type of 'girl' worth being with anyway !!

With a 0-60 of 5.7 and 165 mph top speed it can't be described as slow, but seeing that you can buy an early DB7 Vantage for the same money as an I6 now (£25k for a mint 1999/2000 V12) you may as well have the extra power.

yes Yes you will be dissapointed - even with the Vantage, but to be honest if you are after a "performance kick" then the whole DB7 thing isn't for you. Our V12 feels (and technically is) slower than a Chimaera 400, however its not about raw power delivery, its about GT cruising with a good level of haste when required.

Not sure what your concerns on the maintenance on the V12 is - they are basically annual services assuming you don't go to the moon and back.

Cheers,

Matt.

I've had a Cerbera, SL500s, 996 C4, Maserati 4200 and now a manual I6 DB7. The mid-range torque is very impressive, handling is much better than you think (with the later cars different rear axle and springs) however it isn't as fast as it should be. 0-100mph around 15s isn't mightily impressive but then the feel and whole atmosphere of driving one far outweighs that. I've just had mine upgraded with a new supercharger pulley (~400bhp, ~450lbft) and it's now as quick as a Vantage without the worry of 12 coil packs giving up on me! Cost was £2k + VAT though I had some other bits done.

Not a fan of the autos myself but would make sense in a Vantage.

Some cars make you drive like an idiot - the DB7 seems to have the reverse effect. It's almost all the car I'd ever want.

How anyone can even mention a hot hatch or a rice burner in the same sentance as an Aston beggars belief .
