Bit of an odd one this. I've had recurring a recurring problem with my near-side speaker cutting out. On occasions it crackles and then goes off, and sometimes can be brought back to life by a bump in the road or pothole, and once or twice I managed to get it going by wiggling the volume knob. Symptom is a lot like a loose connection therefore, but I'm told you don't get that nowadays - it's all "flashing" the system and initialising channels, yeah, whatever....rolleyes

Anyway, it's been back to the dealer about 3 times now and last time they actually changed the speaker. It worked fine for three days and now it's happening again.

So last night I noticed that when I switched on my Bluetooth on the phone (with the car standing still, so no possibility of a bump in the road causing it) the radio was playing through both sides before, but then after the message it only came through the driver side. Turned Bluetooth off and after a while the speakers started working again. Got back home, turned everything off and repeated the exercise and the same thing happened.
idea

So is it something about activating Bluetooth which causes the problem ? Can't be sure, as I got in this morning, left the phone off and still had one speaker for part of the journey banghead. But maybe the phone effect is a clue to the problem.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem.

Cheers
David

i have this exact problem but in my drivers side.bit of a technophobe so when i changed my phone a few months back i didn`t even pair up the new one to the car so my conclusion is that it hasn`t anything to do with the bluetooth.i find(after 2 visits to the shop unsuccesfully)the best remedy is to blast out something with a lot of low end resonance like korn or other relly mad heavy metal!!.god knows why it works but it does.i suppose if you don`t like metal you`re fuked!!!

judging by ur username you too have been a tvr man in the past.i had loads of the bds but when i finally handed my rifle in( 05 tuscan s) it had spent over half its life in the shop(had it for 18 months) and had successfully put me off the marque for life.got into a 53 plate db7 which had a couple of minor niggles and then into a new v8v on 07 plate.again, a fewannoying things like the speaker and squeeky brakes and fan belt butt all in all it`s never been off the road for anything serious in 16000 miles.the most reliable car i`ve ever had( inc. porsche vw bmw aswell).does the 90,000 grand spent leave me a bit let down??.......not one little bit!!

Correct. In fact I'm still in one now. The Sag only makes it out on sunny days and track days so has only done about 8k in coming up for 3 years. Have considered selling and moving on but tried that once before and only ended up buying another. To be honest I think I've been a lucky TVR owner; very few problems, and the Sag (fingers crossed) is the best I've had.

It'll probably upset any TiV pure-ists straying into the AM forum, but I couldn't do it as an everyday drive though. Cold dark mornings are a lot nicer in the Vantage wink

Aha, that'll be the hand made, car of character consolation line. Agree, who wants a Lexus where everything works all the time. Bet their forum is dead boring

Mine does this too. I often keep activating the Bluetooth on the steering wheel to fix it

If it's repeatable with the bluetooth, I'd get them to replace the whole stereo system.

Sounds like a dodgy connection to me though.

i know what you mean about good luck/bad luck tivs.on the whole my previous three to the tuscan s were generally ok.it still makes me smile, though ,when i think back to incidents like coming home from birmingham with the wife in my tuscan mk1 with the transmission tunnel glowing red hot due to displaced heat sinks and then hitting standing traffic!!!windows down and roof off and still we were both on the verge of nausea and heat exhaustion.however the one thing i do miss is that straight line speed.

No shortage of those horror stories around, and whilst I said I was trouble free I remember my Griff starter motor used to jam up once the car was hot. Stopping for gas meant either taking an hour off sitting at the pumps or getting someone to give me a push. Slightly embarrassing but at least you get to meet a lot of people.

One speaker again this morning. Quick blast of Massive Attack and we're back to stereo - you're a genius. However, I may go with Murph's advice as I'm still getting intermittent cutting out on that side. Time for a serious discussion with the dealer I think.

Similar problem on my new (to me) ... 07MY V8V. Switching on the phone's bluetooth caused ALL the speakers except for the sub to cut out (so I just got heavy bass frequency, no treble). Resolved when I turned off the bluetooth. For some reason it's now stopped doing it.

Sorted. AM replaced the Bluetooth with a different system and so far so good. I've had three days of no problems with the speaker cutting out or crackling.

So now my Bluetooth operates through the radio screen instead of by voice, although when I read the manual I may find that it does that too. Not too bothered as I always found the woman somewhat hard of hearing.

In the meantime I'm just happy that I can make a call without the stereo going into mono. I presume they also changed the audio software somehow, as when I select CD it now presents an option menu of CD, USB, Ipod - no sign of an Ipod input though sadly.

I was away for a few days and left the car with them, along with a long list of symptoms. When I came back it was delivered back all sorted out. Utterly painless.

I'd be asking them for the iPod connector too as they've buggered about with it wink

It's an idea, seems a shame not to use the functionality if the thing is configured for it. Where does that fit on the AM ? In my Merc it's a simple jack socket in the glove box - no control of the ipod itself through the stereo controls, but to be honest I usually just put it on random play and let it do its thing.

Agree with that. My Tuscan S is sitting in the garage with only 6K on the clock. Not giving me much of a problem at all. The Vantage is a much better bet for regular journeys.

I believe it goes in the glovebox on the AM too, but you can control it from the head unit.

I'd certainly ask for it to be done gratis or at very low cost for the hassle you've had wink
