Hi all, I just picked up an 06 plate V8 Vantage at the weekend and have a few questions if you don't mind.

1. Tyre pressure warning comes on for a while then goes off. I've been advised by the dealer this is due to the current climate, i.e. low temp. Is this true and if so is it fixable? I don't want to have a system like this that doesn't work when it's cold!!!!
2. Remote boot lid opening via keyfob doesn't work from either key. Is there a switch or something somewhere to enable this. The boot lid opens fine from the button.
3. Any upgrades for the SAT NAV available, it's aweful !
4. The steering wheel airbag is loose and rattles when going over bumps, again is the normal?

Thanks in advance.

PS - Fuse 22 removed. What a lovely sound!!!

Items 1,2 and 4 are all covered by the warranty. Get it in to a main dealer.

Thanks, item 1 was already checked by a main dealer that's why I'm asking the point here to find out experiences of the issue.

What I think he meant is that during the cold weather the tires do tend to loose pressure after standing for a while. Once a little heat is put into them things all go back to normal. I would think your system is working fine.

have you tried pressing the button on the remote two or three times quickly to pop the boot, one press doesnt work for security reasons.

Presumably the pressure monitors are temperature-compensated ? After all, tyres gain lots of heat when running.

I've never had any problems with mine.

And yes, the sat-nav is rather poor but I don't think there are any (integrated) upgrades around.

Same here - never had 'false alarms' and drove/parked it in everything from deep snow to high summer tempratures.

The warning light will come on if the pressure changes by 4psi. hence after a quick run when the tyres get hot, the light will be on when you come back to the car the following morning. The light should go out after a couple of minutes. That has been the same on the two cars I have had. (06 and 09)

1) Does it do this after being stood for a while ignition on? How long does it stay on? Probably not worth worrying about until the next service.

2) I thought it was only 07 on that actually popped the boot (albeit not much!)? Earlier cars just unlocked?

3) Yes - tape it shut and buy a TomTom. Biggest piece of crap on the car.

4) I believe they can fix this under warranty.

I agree on the satnav - having just picked up the 09 model back in July I cant believe they are using such a terrible set up. Furthermore the traffic jam system doesnt work in the UK - its pretty pathetic considering they are a UK manufacturer and this is the brand new model. I actually took the trouble to call Aston about this and they were totally unapologetic - said their 'consumer surveys' had identified only 'a basic satnav requirement' - which they filled from the group parts bin, charging something like 1700quid for the option in the process.

The whole electronics set up feels like its been cobbled together. The tyre pressure system for example - surely it would be pretty straight forward to feed a signal to the dash to let you know which tyre was causing a problem rather than having some ludicrous underdashboard colour coded nonsense.

Its still the prettiest car on the road and you cant argue with the exhaust note.

Shame they didn't meet the brief!

Agree on the electronics. Next time it might be better if they allow someone who knows their arse from their elbow to design them. Easy stuff to get right these days so absolutely no excuse on a 100k car (give or take). Fiats (proper ones, not Ferraris!) are better.

as a side note I've also noticed my clutch is stinking ! lol. Especially in reverse I get a lot of clunk smell no matter how careful I am with it.

Hi,

My V8V is going in for the 1000 mile service next week. I have raised the issue about the tire pressure warning coming on. I drove from Wales to Newcastle last month and it came on a lot - about 10 times. You have to slow down to about 40 mph to make it go off. I'll see if they can fix it.

Got to agree with the sat nav, load of crap, can't make sense of the valuation! I just use a tomtom.

Other than that though, what a car!

That's definitely not right.

On my second winter with the car and it gets used all the time. Never had that issue. It only ever comes on for me when the car's been stood with ignition on for a little while. The owners book suggests this is normal.
