Autocar - Buying used V8 Vantage/DB9
Discussion
Shame...normally a good weekly read. Although you have to doubt the editorial efforts of a mag that allows itself to print an advert claiming to beat the credit crunch with "deprecication-proof porsches"....what type of idiot reads this and believes 70% of purchase price after 18 months is beating depreciation!!!! I guess at least it was entertaining ;-)

Looking at Autotrader, there are V8 vantage for around 40K and DB9 for around 50k. A DB9 recently sold for 45k. Dont agree with the clutches, but with hassling you will be able to buy them for that price.
Agreed. Saw a 05 DB9 with 7k miles that was mint sell for £48k last week.....disad-vantage-d said:
Anyone here seen the article in this weeks Autocar re the above? Reckons there are sub 40k Vantages about, together with £50k DB9's. Also, reckons V8 Vantage clutches can often have a life expectancy of 5k miles.
Yes they are SO cheap that all of my mates have rushed out to "snap one up" NOT!!!!!!!!!!! Why not? Apparently no one has any money and no one is lending any either. Welcome to deflation...Mine has gone 16k on the same clutch now by the way

There are 85 S2000's for sale on Pistonheads alone, don't know where you get your figures from
hi all reference the clutches in last 6 months we have replaced 5 clutches with mileage's below 6000 note all these belong to hire companies, 7 more on amv8's that have done between 7000 and 12000 some of these belong to general owners and a few that have done over 12000, not see one yet that has done 30k plus, it is down to how they are driven ie sat in gear holding the car on the clutch on a hill, riding the clutch, aggressive driving etc, the sportshift system has a much better mileage life as all controlled electro/hydraulically,
Anyone know of a DB9 buyer's guide? I've been googling but not found anything.
My wife's still not really that keen on a gt3 partly because I think the silver ones are boring and want a yellow one and partly because it really isn't going to be much more comfy than the elise.
Just having trouble finding much out on what to look out for on them, what the std kit/options were back in 2005/6 and who to use for an inspection...
(oh, and are the official 11mpg urban figures correct? not that i really mind, but still...)

theres one in Autocar this week...dunno how accurate it is though
11mpg ...yeah ...seems normal, as my Vantage averages 17-18mpg and thats with a lot of motorway stuff
yes, Autocar this week has an article on buying DB9 and the V8 Vantage. In fact, I'm surprised there isnt a thread on Pistonheads.com talking about this article. Have you had a look under the Aston Martin section? I think its called Autocar- buying used DB9/V8 Vantage or something very simmilar. 11mpg ...yeah ...seems normal, as my Vantage averages 17-18mpg and thats with a lot of motorway stuff
And 11mpg? pah! The most I have ever got from my DBS V8 is 16mpg. Thw worst was somewhat less then 11mpg.
