Anyone here seen the article in this weeks Autocar re the above? Reckons there are sub 40k Vantages about, together with £50k DB9's. Also, reckons V8 Vantage clutches can often have a life expectancy of 5k miles.

LOL ..sounds like a really well researched article then ...not ! ...so they find one car maybe in the UK below £40K, hear of an owner going through a clutch very quickly and then its all fact that all cars do this...typical logic that sells magazines eh wink

What is it with people trying to slate Astons using very poor misled information. First Topgear slating the re-sale values of Astons now Autocar. They should be supporting the "British" car makes..

Shame...normally a good weekly read. Although you have to doubt the editorial efforts of a mag that allows itself to print an advert claiming to beat the credit crunch with "deprecication-proof porsches"....what type of idiot reads this and believes 70% of purchase price after 18 months is beating depreciation!!!! I guess at least it was entertaining ;-)

Autocar's st. The quality of the writing and articles is very poor these days.

It's the bloke equivalent of OK!

That said...the starting prices for these cars are about right IMO. BUT you will not have a massive selection and will likely have to make compromises.

Looking at Autotrader, there are V8 vantage for around 40K and DB9 for around 50k. A DB9 recently sold for 45k. Dont agree with the clutches, but with hassling you will be able to buy them for that price.

Yes they are SO cheap that all of my mates have rushed out to "snap one up" NOT!!!!!!!!!!! Why not? Apparently no one has any money and no one is lending any either. Welcome to deflation...

Mine has gone 16k on the same clutch now by the way smile

Isn't that EXACTLY the problem that's being caused by all this media doom and gloom day in day out? Surely, anyone who's on the same income as they were say a year ago has got MORE money because everything - in this case cars - is so much cheaper. Most of us in a secure postion are BETTER OFF spending wise surely. Top Marques looks like a sweetie shop window to a toddler at the moment. smile I don't listen to what some plank on the news tells me about my bank balance thanks very much - I just look at my statements. Then, if I've got it, I spend when I want to just the same as always.

I'm kinda interested in a DB9, but as there are nearly 300 for sale in the UK at the moment (compared to just over 100 S2000's!!) I suspect 2009 will be a bad year for them. So, I'll sit and wait and watch, and maybe pitch in when they get to £35k......

next summer!

So many S2000's? I thought most had been crashed by now! wink

I have been very keen on the DB9 since launch but was thinking about dropping £40k into a 550 Maranello next year. But at the same money, perhaps a DB9 would be more discrete/useable.... lick decisions, decisions.....

hi all reference the clutches in last 6 months we have replaced 5 clutches with mileage's below 6000 note all these belong to hire companies, 7 more on amv8's that have done between 7000 and 12000 some of these belong to general owners and a few that have done over 12000, not see one yet that has done 30k plus, it is down to how they are driven ie sat in gear holding the car on the clutch on a hill, riding the clutch, aggressive driving etc, the sportshift system has a much better mileage life as all controlled electro/hydraulically,

Anyone know of a DB9 buyer's guide? I've been googling but not found anything.

My wife's still not really that keen on a gt3 partly because I think the silver ones are boring and want a yellow one and partly because it really isn't going to be much more comfy than the elise.

Just having trouble finding much out on what to look out for on them, what the std kit/options were back in 2005/6 and who to use for an inspection...

(oh, and are the official 11mpg urban figures correct? not that i really mind, but still...)

yes, Autocar this week has an article on buying DB9 and the V8 Vantage. In fact, I'm surprised there isnt a thread on Pistonheads.com talking about this article. Have you had a look under the Aston Martin section? I think its called Autocar- buying used DB9/V8 Vantage or something very simmilar.

And 11mpg? pah! The most I have ever got from my DBS V8 is 16mpg. Thw worst was somewhat less then 11mpg.
