I think this is a con. An AMV8 (in various colours) has been advertised several times against this background (including on Auto Trader, where it was taken down). The last time this car was advertised (from memory) the ad said 2007 model but the interior was 2006 (looking at the seats).

yeah, ive seen those pics before too on a different ad ...scam

I think the cheapest legit one is the Toro red one that started out at £47995 private sale and has eventually ended up with a trader for £39995 ..I guess the owner was getting desperate to pay a PCP balloon off and ended up taking a hit with the trade frown

Price-wise though is this unrealistic? eg. I can see a 2006 model being advertised on PH by a dealer for £48990. So if you subtract the VAT from 49K and allow the dealer to make some profit then the dealer would paying around 30-35K max.

yeah I think to sell one at trade price you are looking at £35K for the cheapest for sure ...obviously trade in could be more, depending on how much is in the car that you are buying.

Is it just me or are these interminable threads about price just getting too fking tedious for words?

You can either afford the car (and the associated running costs) or you can't.

Tedious for people who bought at the wrong time & are watching their car fall into the reach of slightly less well off or tight arse individuals.

Exciting for tose same people who are either tight or will not take out loans to buy cars & can now see fairly new exotica at crazilly low prices.

Being able to afford any specific model of car doesnt mean you should just pay asking prices. it doesnt matter how much money you have or how large your budget is, its still a great feeling to drive what you think is a bargain or great value for money. I think there are a lot of people out there right now that are hurting due to the recent surge in depreciation but for those of us that are currently looking to buy its a great thing. As each day goes past we can get more for our money. My budget for buying a car could be £100k but id get more satisfaction buying a £45k car for closer to £35k than buying someone elses problem at closer to what they may think its worth! Theres a lot of quality used vehicles in the £35-£50k range right now, V8's, Bentley GT's and M6's spring to mind. Perhaps someone that gets stressed at others commenting on a models depreciation is actually more stressed about money than they may like to admit. With a tough xmas, a new year and maybe even the '09' plated vehicles not seeming too far off those of us looking for great value are probably gonna find what we want. A £35k V8..?? It may not be that far away. Thats of course if you dont already believe that there are some people that would accept something close to that figure currently if you passed a cheque in front of their nose!

What all these people seem to FORGET whilst they are drooling over deflation. Is that unless you have CASH you won't be able to buy it anyway because NO ONE will lend you the money. That's the catch with deflation which as usual the sheeple don't understand, the prices look great but there are zero deals to be had!

The banks will NEVER again lend to you unless you are squeeky clean simply because they have now reverted back to a traditional risk averse model of lending so that they can sort their balance sheets out. Go and try to borrow money for a house and they will want minimum 25% down now and for you to be clean. A car ROFL forget it! They are not stupid they know assetts are deflating!

So 39 grand 85 grand makes no difference if you have not got the money does it? It is still out of reach of ordinary man.

Completely agree!! And for what it's worth most of the guys on here who actually own the cars DON'T stress about depreciation. I suspect that like me they buy their cars with their eyes wide open, anticipate the depreciation and having decided they can afford it, accept that it is the price you pay for everything you get out of owning a fabulous car and then forget it. All these people who 'are going to wait until the price drops' make me laugh. You do realise that at whatever point you buy the thing will STILL depreciate don't you? Why wait until 2009 to buy why not wait until '10, '11, etc etc.

And don't get me started on all this bleating that 'finance is impossible to get' Rubbish - it's just reverted to only being offered on a realistic basis, ie if you have a sensible deposit and a good track record some absolutely amazing deals are available. Same as these numpties who seem to think it's the end of the world because you can't get 110% mortgages any more. So what? If you can't commit to saving a decent deposit for a house or a small one for the car of your dreams, can't take the depreciation etc., then get back in the kiddies end of the pool where you belong.

And breath......................

I was'nt aiming my post at you or at any individual I was generalising as to what happens in a deflationary environment. Bit sensitive arn't we?

I dont understand::

1) why you read them if they upset you so much?
2) Why do they upset you so much?

I tend to avoid things that wind me up or I dont like confused

I certainly wouldn't try to make myself feel bigger by belittling others, in actual fact it has the opposite effect in my eyes.

Hi,

I don't THINK that was aimed at me? Just in case it was I a) don't take ANYTHING on here seriously enough to get 'upset' about it - as most regulars on here will know and b) don't think anything I wrote could be read as an attempt to belittle anyone. But being a sensitive sole I thought that I'd just check! smile

Oh, and again as regulars will know, I very rarely actually 'do' depreciation on my cars so I'm argueing from a mainly theoretical view point anyway.
