To Bavarian AMV8 owners... (well, Soul Reaver) - now you've spent your hard earned on interior alcantara, did you have enough left to fit winter tyres? Some Bavarian friends explained to me that winter tyres in Munchen are compulsory for taxis from 1 Nov onwards and the like but not for normal citizens. If a citizen is NOT on winter tyres and has an accident and "they" judge that you wouldn't have had the accident if you had winter shoes on, then your insurers won't pay out and you could be found to be at fault. You are probably already aware but if you weren't...

HI fella

We were discussing this today at lunch and to be honest I simply wont drive mine over winter unless it is one of the clear sunny days. I am driving home to the Uk late december (20th) but wont if it is snowing or icy.

Considering that AM Munich were asking €5200 for 18" Winter Tyres (incl. alloy rims), I was wondering what to do too. Buying winter tyres only (€2000) and placing them on my 19" rims was deemed risky by AM Service as this could damage the tyres.
I managed to find next-to-new 2007 tyres on alloys for €2000, which was a great deal. And considering the expectations on the 08/09 winter, I wonder how many warm days you guys will encounter. Can you wait that long until Spring '09 !? I can't...

I can wait because weekends I will be off snowboarding and will want to rent a touring or something to get all my kit in. It will also be good to have a few weeks out of the car and not rack up so many miles smile

€2000 for winter tyres ? Are they made from golden rubber ? biggrin

Really, you should be able to get a set of Contis SP Wintersport M3 for no more than €1300 from any decent tyre dealer. And unmounting/mounting 19 tyres is no problem these days, no rocket science involved at all.
