Did anyone else hear James May suggest that you could pick up a Vantage after 12 months for 50% of its new purchase price?

I'd like to know where from as I am in the market for one! Test drove one yesterday at the dealership in Hagley (awesome service from the sales guy John and the finance chap). I absolutely loved it, although haven't been able to do the deal yet as my Porsche Cayman is only being offered 51% of its cost after 22 months from new!!!

The residules seem to have been hit hard across the board, which is now making me nervous about jumping into another car which is likely to lose money at an alarming rate, particularly given the crunch and all that.

So, I have decided to wait until after Christmas when, hopefully (for me but not some of you) the price of an 06 Plate will have come down to low £40ks. In the meantime, I need to shift the Cayman privately (hmmm....there may be a flaw in my plan....).

I look forward to being a fully fledged member of your forum as soon as I can!

Cheers

I do agree !

Much as I love aspects of Top Gear, they do talk some complete an utter "twaddle" (a James May-ism) sometimes, to the detriment of owners.. why single out Aston... just because Clarkson has one & they want to get their own back, great fun, unless you happen to own one biggrin;) same thing with the Vanquish, ok it does depreciate as fast as an anvil dropped from the empire state, but they omitted to mention how many years old the 10k mile car was or the large number of high end GT's who also loose the same or more, what a about a Fezza 456, 612, Bentley etc etc etc ???!

..... at the same time JC rubbishes the Porsche GT2 as he does all Porkers, I'd have the Lambo over the GT2 granted, but the GT2 is still an awesome car & deserves at least a nod of respect!

At least Lewis won biggrinbiggrinbiggrin, may have been by default but he "was robbed" last year & he the penalty's nearly did the same this time... a right result!

Well I must have been exceptionally lucky getting £53k for my 10k mile '06 Coupe a couple of months ago, plus a significant discount of it's replacement .... whistle

I love Top Gear but that was just utter twaddle. There are, no doubt, some occasions where this can be done but I'd guess it is more from those who need to liquidate rapidly ....

its not there fault that their own research team must just be lazy and take things they read in the Autotrader as gospel ..there are the odd scams out there you know wink

... and one of the first to ship to customers. This car is not that far short of being a three year old car and with that sort of mileage, there are better/younger cars around for not much more.

Has James really seen something with 50% depreciation after twelve months? Well mine lost 38% over two years and that was a trade-in rather than the price Joe-public might pay.

Which is still n;)ot 50% for a car twice as old as May referred to ....

Got to say though, that makes my old car a bargain for anyone looking at getting one! £48k on the dealer website ...

He was probably referring to a trade in. In a duff colour with miles on.

And the same would apply to pretty much any premium marque at the moment. I wonder how much dealers are bidding on silver, manual, 25k mls 430s...

Journalists. Take what they say as gospel at your peril. There'll be a few people going without an Aston for a while, certain they'll find a 45k Aston, 1yr old, no stories Aston in a nice colour combo.

That's the one. It was my first Aston and I was anal about keeping it in good nick so it was always garaged, washed regularly, DiamondBrited and rarely went out in the wet! Was the "second" car so got a nice blast (but not abused) regularly to keep it on best form. As far as I know it never suffered any scratches either.

My other half used to moan that she couldn't eat or drink in the car! laugh
