Total system failure during/after full brake application
Discussion
I just had a very worrying experience with my 06/2008 Vantage (3000 kms). My brakes were squealing, so I took the opportunity of an empty road in the Bavarian alps to perform some heavy braking (from 90 km/h to 20 km/h).
During the second go I lost all power. The car switched off - display off, lost power stearing/braking, total system failure. I managed to manoeuvre to the side of the road and restarted. All fine, and no further trouble during/after the next two attempts.
I hate to think what would happen on the motorway or other busy road if my Vantage would switch off in an emergeny, i.e. full brake, situation.
Has anyone experienced similar or have any explanation for this? I’m quite shocked, and have kind of lost confidence in my car. Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.

How hard were you braking?
I wonder if there's some sort of sensor in the car to cut it out if it thinks you've been in an accident?
Edited to add that in that event, you'd imagine having to physically press something to get it going again.
Curious. Be worth a chat with your dealer.

That must have been a scary moment , congtats on bringing it to a halt . I cannot recall ever hearing of this type of issue previously . Murph you are correct , there is an inertia switch which if operated would give these symptoms , but also it automatically unlocks the doors , and does need manual resetting to get the thing up and running again .
Maybe your dealer ought to begin by looking at the BDS ( BATTERY DISCONNECT SWITCH ) these have been known to give similar types of failures , but historically NOT on this model .

Gentlemen -
cheers for your feedback, sounds plausible. The posters on the AM Owners Forum reckon it could have something to do with the emergency cut. An emergency cut should only occur after a heavy impact, if you ask me, not after heavy braking. One of the posters had experienced this 3 times...
I am not impressed. Any other ideas/feedback welcome.

I had this happen to me once in a Vantage (not mine). F**king scarey as I was on a very twisty B road with a 80 degreee corner. Power assistance to brakes and steering disappeared. Steering and brakes turned to lead. Luckily I managed to dip the clutch, hit the starter and pull it round the corner.
Not fun, but did not put me off buying. I'd be very interested to see what your dealer says. My mate sold his shortly after due to the patter of tiny feet but it'd be good to know what to do just in case...
