Supercharged V8 Vantage...
Discussion
Right,
This is coming from somebody who is in no position to own or even drive a car like this.
But the thing is...
Iv'e heard from several people that have driven the Vantage, that it feels slighty under powered :S
Don't get me wrong. I know it's a very quick car but Aston could of made it quicker.
I know this would affect the resale but isn't this soooo very tempting...

I feel that if I had a Vantage, I would Supercharge it as long as there is no (Noticable) Supercharge whine, No noticable cosmetic differences and realistic price for the transformation.
I havn't created this topic to ignite a forum war because I think tuning a car such as an Aston is ridiculous...
What is your views?

yup - seen that...un unproven solution thus far, once a few cars have done a hundred K miles without going bang then they might get a few customers
as for "underpowered" - the main reason here that it feels like it, is that Aston havnt mapped into the ECU a big step up at 4 or 5K revs where (in other cars) you get a surge of power...its not actually any fast than it would be just having a smooth, linear, well mapped power delivery like the Vantage, but it *feels* like it ..kind of like the slug of torque you get in a turbo diesel at 2000revs ...makes it feel fast
when it was released, the Vantage was near identical to the M3 Beemer....the M3 was raved on about - super fast ...and if you drove one, then yes, you did get that surge of power from 4K upwards...Aston...nope...just nice n smooth and refined (perhaps too refined for some) and of course...its too slow !
dont believe everything you read in the motoring press, and judge things for yourself 0-100mph in 11.5 secs (old 4.3 Vantage) is fast enough for most people and sub 10secs in the new 4.7 is a VERY fast car

Agreed mate. I did say I have never had the priviledge of going in a V8 Vantage and Im sure if I did travel in one... I would understand that they really are very fast cars.as for "underpowered" - the main reason here that it feels like it, is that Aston havnt mapped into the ECU a big step up at 4 or 5K revs where (in other cars) you get a surge of power...its not actually any fast than it would be just having a smooth, linear, well mapped power delivery like the Vantage, but it *feels* like it ..kind of like the slug of torque you get in a turbo diesel at 2000revs ...makes it feel fast

Agreed. Bang on. How fast a car 'feels' and how fast a car is are 2 very different things. I used to have an e46 m3, and it felt super quick with a noise to match, but it wasn't Supercar quick, but felt it sometimes. Go figure. Cars of yesteryear felt plenty quick enough with sub 400bhp, but as cabins get quieter, comfier, etc it takes a lot to generate that 'head thrust into the headrest' sensation. Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait for the Vantage with the V12 lump. Mmmmmm.... as for "underpowered" - the main reason here that it feels like it, is that Aston havnt mapped into the ECU a big step up at 4 or 5K revs where (in other cars) you get a surge of power...its not actually any fast than it would be just having a smooth, linear, well mapped power delivery like the Vantage, but it *feels* like it ..kind of like the slug of torque you get in a turbo diesel at 2000revs ...makes it feel fast

yeah, its part of the tricks manufacturers use these days, they dont HAVE to have these surges in power at all - the technology is there to have perfectly mapped, smooth, linear delivery engines...but that dosent feel 'sporty' does it
I always remember my old Honda Prelude VTEC - not much torque...well...anywhere really, but when it came 'on-cam' at 5500revs it just took off and felt SOOO fast, when in reality...mmm...it was hot-hatch fast.
The 4.3 Vantage just picks up smoothly, no surges or anything, maybe we should tell Aston to map in a big jump at about 4K revs, just to make it "feel" a lot faster and keep the motoring journalists happy...i think they were the only ones complaining about how it "didnt feel as fast as it should"

The Vantage is underpowered... I own one and had an M3 before it and can tell you that the M3 would beat it in many situations (no matter what the manufacturers state). Don't get me wrong - I like the Vantage but it is clearly underpowered... many times I drop a gear, step on the gas, and wait... and wait... and then decide it is not a sports car... it is really in between a sports car and GT...
Now... the supercharger mentioned above is $25,000 and not sure it is worth the risk. At this point I am trying to decide whether I should modify my Vantage with exhaust, chip, freeflow cats, etc or just dump it and try out a new one (4.7) or something new.

Agreed. It depends on your personal "baseline". I traded a GT2 for my AMV8 and to me it is a slug. A beautiful slug but its bark is worse than its bite. To me personally, the supercharger and no warranty are worth the gamble. We will see.Now... the supercharger mentioned above is $25,000 and not sure it is worth the risk. yes, of course everything and every car is relative - to Joe Bloggs though 0-100 in 11.5secs is a fast car ...or if you are used to cars that will do 100mph in sub 10secs or nearer 8secs (like my old Elise) then the Vantage feels like a mere runaround. My other half has a Sagaris, and that feels fast...again, with the same power but 500kg less weight, of course it will.
Compare the Vantage with regular cars - its fast, compare it with £150K Lambos its not...simple
