Hi Guys, try as i might I still cannot get rid of the front brake squeal. Its an 07 v8v with 6k on the clock, I've had the shims fitted, i've done the 100-0 brake test, tried driving like a loon and braking heavily all the time, but I still have the squeal......any further advice that anyone can offer?

did they put some copper slip on the back of the pads as well as the anti-squeal shims? ..that helps

other than that all I can think of is to change brand of pads next time away from the OEM (brembo?) pads - maybesome Pagid RS4-2s would be better, that would be my choice

sorry if this is old ground - but is the fitting of shims a warranty fix - my brakes are squeaking like hell!

yes, its a service bulletin I think, they are standard now on new cars - TBH its pretty common with a lot of pad brands to fit anti squeal shims, used them all the time with Pagids in my Elise

Mine had new pads the day before I bought it from a dealer... I don't get any sqeel except at very low speed under very very low braking (pulling into driveway etc). Does this mean I need something? Its not bothered me one bit, and doesnt do under heavy braking, just noticed this thread...

Hi bogie...not sure if they applied the copper slip or not....expect so as its been in a couple of times with the same complaint. I've given up on the dealer as they admitted they didn't know what to do next (at least their honest!)

Suspected replacing the pads may work, but read that the pagids can suffer from the same issue.

Anybody had any experience with other types of pads for a fix?

yeah Pagids can squeal a bit too, and its usually the same fix, so a bit trial and error

its basically the pad compound + disc thats the problem, and some things make it worse frown

same problem in my 07 with 12000 now on clock.dealer fix lasted about 15 mins. i have found the only way to stop this is to use a domestic karcher pressure washer at home and spray a jet of water into the back of the brake shoe itself. the amount of brake dust that actually sits in the shoe is alarming . you will see loads of the stuff running out.i also spray inbetween the discs themselves.i tend to wash my car fairly regularly so by the time i am getting a hint of squeal as the dust is building up in the shoe it`s ready for another wash.not perfect solution i know but it stops the annoyance of that fingernails-down-blackboard feeling that has me wanting to rip my hair out!

Bizarrely this problem just disappeared completely at about 20,000km on my car and has never resurfaced during the following 10,000km. Never had any adjustments done, '06 model.

i didn't had the Problem on my former Coupe - but i had it it on my new Roadster after 2000 kms - they tried several things (including all SBs) and the only thing that helped was to cut a bit the angles of the brake pads... (sorry for my bad english) and now its gone - i have done 3000 kms since ...

Thanks again. I'll borrow a friend's pressure washer this weekend and see if that provides a temporary fix between washes. Cheers.

ah - yes, I forgot about chamfering the pads - another common fix, usually happens on its own through wear eventually, therefore curing the sound

Pressure washer works. Not a long term fix, but enough to keep me sane in between washes!

Dealer tried a couple of fixes on mine. The chamfer treatment was the cure that finally worked. Only occasionally do I get a squeak nowadays (8,000 on the clock) and usually when roads are damp - maybe it's the roadspray which makes the dust stick.

Be careful about pressure washing the wheel hub assembly. I don't know the Aston hub design, but some hubs are susceptible to high pressure water jets reaching the wheel bearings.

I occasionally get some squeaking from mine, but it's always cured by a good workout.

Think it pays to use the brakes well - doesn't mean jabbing them on necessarily, just being firm with them.

I have had this same problem on my AMV8 and this is what I did

1. Stripped pads out and applied liberal amounts of copper eze to the backs, anywhere pad touches metal and also the pins

2. Did the same on the handbrake pads

3. Champfered the edges of all pads slightly

Not a squeek in sight smile

Good one Mark. These of course do not benefit from working the brakes on the move, unless you drop in a couple of handbrake turns
