Firstly, I just bought a v8 Vantage 2006 from my local Stratstone Aston dealer.... Woooohooo!!!!

My insurance quotes were £1240 (im 26) fully comp protected, and adding my 25 year old girlfriend as a named driver just reduced the quote to £940.... is this normal?!?

Yep as mad as it seems having a sensible lady on the insurance usually brings it down.

Don't question it, pay it.

Damn good quote for someone sub-30 IMO.

Is it Stratstones that are part of the Pendragon group? If so, might be worth getting friendly with other local dealers smile

Yep I see the group isnt doing well and the Salesman explained just why...

But I got a nice car (may have paid £1k to £2k over the odds) but its still good to buy from an Aston dealer with a full Aston warranty and it was serviced for me yesturday.

I could sit waiting and waiting for the "domm and gloom" to change, but the longer I wait the longer im not enjoying a new car, so I went for it smile

Not questioning your decision to buy. Just make sure you have an escape route for servicing etc if they go down the toiletwink

Yep, same price as mine is up for with the same group, with similar spec.

Insurance offer is bloody good! I'm 40 and my company charges more and won't even consider adding my 27 year old other half! Then again, a written off XKR might not have helped three years ago!

What's the deal with Stratstone then? Just wondering since my cars have come from them ....

Well Stratstones is crappy when it comes to negotiating price. If you read what their shareholders have to say over at iii then you will see why (the salesman are not given any margin to negotiate with). So rather than negotiate on price I got some things added like Ultra Jewel protection, Tax, Tank of Petrol etc....

To the person who asked what the deal is with Stratstones... They are owned by Pendragon PLC whos share price is collapsing... I still don't see this being a problem when it comes to servicing and warranties because once a service is done, thats that, and the warranty is with Aston and not specific to Stratstones?? Either way I'm sure they aren't about to disappear.

Short answer was no, I paid the list price but got a bunch of stuff thrown in. May have been a couple of K's over the going rate but I doubt I would find a nicer car (really prestine) and have the comforts of buying from an Aston dealer rather than any dodgy garage or privately.

I believe a couple of Stratstones branches have already closed, though could be the Ferrari showrooms only.

Pendragon's share price has dropped from around 68p to around 7p. And the car market is getting any rosier.

No issues at all really (quick Google search doesn't necessarily show them in the best light mind). I wouldn't want my car stuck in their service departments if they were to go tits up though. I'd simply keep my eye open for alternative avenues of servicing just in case.

Well maybe they could go bust just after I take my car and just before they take the bankers draft to the bank... yes that would be lovely, please.

Could I just ask who your insurance is with? Seems like a great price and I just like to keep abrest of the companies that are doing good deals for young people

This is through elephant.co.uk

Admiral were doing a very similar price too.

Kwikfit were worst offering to insure me for over £4k and then following up more than 4 times with annoying phone calls!

I couldn't believe it either when I added my GF to the insurance and got a nice discount (she will probably never drive my Aston but at least I don't have to pay so much). It's worth just trying one of these insurance comparison sites and see if you will get it cheaper if you add the other half, you never know and it doesn't cost anything.

Insurance costs obviously vary but I regularly go back to Liverpool Victoria. The only time that I have not been with them in recent years is when they did not want my business (they wouldn't insure a GT3). Recently purchased new N400 Roadster and have my wifes name and full business use on insurance policy - £631.
