I am currently looking at Spending upto £55k on a Vantage. I realise this will get me one of the oldest 05/55/06 examples.

I understand there will have been a whole bunch of bugs and problems with the earlier cars which should have been corrected under warranty as and when they occured.

How do I know if the car I am buying has had everything fixed? Would AM fix any known issues if they had not already been fixed and I then found the issues after buying second hand?

Thanks for any advice, just don't want to go and buy one and then find some "gotchas" due to it being an early model.

You could try taking the chassis no of the car to a dealer and asking them to check.

Alternatively, get any purchase checked out by a dealer and I would think they'll tell you what's what.

Would they fix them if found later? Depends on your relationship with them I guess. And the dealer.

all the service bulletin fixes on my car are marked in the service book under a different section? this is for things like the gearchange stiff etc

How unhelpful! The guy wants to spend 50 large of his hard earned and just wants to know what to look out for. Reply's like yours make people feel stupid for even posting a question.
By the way, your money will go further than you think.....a friend has just bought a 56 plate 07 model for 53k.

Very helpful, and incorrect. As previously mentioned, you have to ask the dealer to check, via the VIN, what service bulletin fixes have been applied.

Also, in the service book, the servicing dealer would have put in the service actions performed on the car. But a call to the local dealer would never do any harm.

Hells teeth! What a great buy for someone who intends to keep it a while and do a low annual mileage.

exactly ! ...im not selling it - even though I wont be driving until next year, with me not using it so much the mileage will even out a bit, so I will have even more pleasure miles to do, back when I can drive again smile

Just made me think though - I hope the new 4.7 drops in the same way, I will happily swap mine for a 3 yr old 'high miler' (more like avg car miles) if they are down to £45K in 3 yearswink

An 06 plate is only two years old and so still has some warranty left. I'd expect them to honour anything that needs doing.

As for trade in, I got £53k for my immaculate '06 car 10k mile when traded for an N400. They have it on the forecourt for £56k. Granted it is scratch/mark/blemish free and as new with all the toys but that seems way better than the £35k mentioned earlier for a car with three times the mileage.

I suppose one good way to know the history of a car might be to see if the previous owner is on either here or the AMOC forum.

Thanks for the useful replies. I am heading out tomorrow to actually start looking where I can spend my cash.

Judging by the current trade ad's a lot of you think cars could be going for a bit less for 06 56 plate examples, so I assume there is quite a bit of negotiating room on the prices im currently seeing at the stealers for 06 56 models... will soon find out I guess! Never spent this much on a car so not sure what sort of offers I might make and weather they are cheeky or not smile

Finally is there a list anywhere of all the bulletins that have been made, so if I do get a list for a potential car I will know if its missed any?

Thanks again to those who are helping me.

Hi

I would be very interested to hear how you got on with your negotiations. I have a Cayman at the moment but am itching to sell and get a V8 instead...

Might have to convince the wife a bit though, first!

Ideally, you should buy from someone looking to trade in and split the difference between stealer offer and resale value? Has anyone ever managed this though?!

Things to remember, are not many cars will be going for asking price, and trade price isnt the same as trade in im afraid.

Im sure If I wanted to trade in my Jan 06 car with 31K miles against a new one, then I may get £45K from a dealer...but trade price is indeed £35K for these now...independants are reckoning on buy in at £35 and out at £40K for a "high miler" ...not that Ive seen one yet - wishful thinking I reckonwink

I got nowhere with negotiations price wise, other than getting a lot of things thrown in, a full service, tax, extending the warranty some more etc...

But this is a car wiht 7k miles on it and I had to have it smile
