Motor Show debut for new Aston Martin
Aston Martin says its new 186mph model - the DB9 - will make its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The car is the first to be produced at the company's new facility at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Production will start at the end of this year and the first deliveries of the aluminium bonded framed car will be made in spring 2004.
Prices will be officially announced soon but it is thought it will cost around £110,000 and 2,000 models a year will be produced.
The DB9 replaces the DB7 and carries on the company's DB tradition, which has included the famous DB5 - featured in James Bond movies and which was earlier this week voted the coolest car in history.
"The DB9 will without doubt be the most important Aston Martin model ever," said company chief executive Dr Ulrich Bez.
He added: "The DB9 is an excellent example of what we as a company stand for today - namely making elegant and understated British sports cars for individuals."
Until now, Aston Martins have been made at Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire and Bloxham in Oxfordshire. Eventually, all production will move to Gaydon.
The new model is a two-door coupe with a V12 engine. It will be able to accelerate from 0-60mph in less than five seconds and reach 100mph in less than 11 seconds. The Frankfurt show takes place next week.
So What do you think?
Luvverley looking motor but isn't this the one that will share the same platform as the Jag XK8 replacement? Ford globalisation n’all that. That detracts from the exclusivity aspect a bit for me (if it’s true). I suppose if it's a sorted chassis it shouldn't really matter though. I'm just a snob really. One wouldn’t want to pay 110K for something that was associated with a common old Jag would one
P.S. What happened to the DB8?

To say it shares the same chassis and that reduces the exclusivity..... It will only share geometries. The ride and handling won't be the same, the dampers and springs will have completely different settings, so it shouldn't reduce the desirability of the car.
I think it is fantastic, looks great and is sure to be a huge success.

Not knocking it mate. As I said "If it's a sorted chassis it shouldn't really matter". However you can just see the wideboy sales exec with his XJ8 MK2 telling the lads downs the pub that he's running around in a detuned DB9 ?

I am a little saddned by "chief executive Dr Ulrich Bez"......"ford globalisation".....we had the finest motor industry in the world and we gave it away.....
It didn't make a profit in it's history... how exactly did you expect them to continue? At least Ford have given them the resources to survive.

Bez designed the Porsche 993 -- not a bad-looking car IMHO (interest declared in my profile)...
