I am seriously think of fitting a Larini Sports rear box and cats to my V8. Would really be interested in hearing from anyone who has gone down this route. How are you finding it? Have there been any issues? Did you re-map the ECU? Is there a significant hike in performance particularly the low to mid range?

Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences.

Larini system is great, had the rear box and cats fitted. The power gains were worth having and the quality of product was second to none. If you want your car to be differant from the rest ,sound fantastic, then I can fully recommend larini

Do insurers have anything to say about this cos sounds like a stunning mod? Any idea of cost for cats & exhaust pack: their site is silent on prices

I have read similar figures, like you I am skeptical about their claims. Thats way I want to gather as much intel as possible.

In answer to cost I have been quoted the following:

2005> Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Larini ‘Sports’ Rear Box … £1589.00 plus Vat = £1867.08
* This product has been dyno tested to yield +26 bhp

2005> Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Larini ‘Sports’ Cats … £1296.00 plus Vat = £1522.80
* These products have been dyno tested to yield +32 bhp

2005> Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Larini ‘Slash Cut’ Tips … £296.00 plus Vat = £347.80

On the issue of power this was what was said:

SPORTS REAR BOX
Once the 'Sports' Rear Box is fitted to your car you will find that the engine is more free-revving and that there is an increase in low/mid-range torque.

Utilizing aviation manufacturing technology, and due to a relentless track development and testing programme, the Larini 'Sports' Rear Box alone will increase power output by +26bhp. If used in conjunction with an ECU re-map power to the rear wheels will increase by +36bhp.

Developments such redesigned internal 'straight-through' silencer pipe work and performance chambers (where necessary), help emit exhaust gasses quicker - with a reduced build up of backpressure, allowing the engine to 'breathe' and perform better. Expect much, much sharper throttle response.

This System is VASTLY freer flowing in comparison to the standard item. Low speed tractability is increased too, temperatures are reduced and it is 12 kg lighter than the stock item.

The System is shrouded in a ventilated heat shield to optimize operating temperatures and ultimate performance.

SPORTS CATS
Lengthy durability and performance dynomometer tests show these items to allow an epic +32bhp increase in power output. If used in conjunction with the Larini 'Sports' Rear Box (+26bhp) and an ECU re-map (+10bhp) power to the rear wheels will increase by a gargantuan +68bhp, finally giving this V8 Aston the much needed power lift (448bhp) that owners the world over have been craving. An epic acoustic soundtrack, as always, is guaranteed.

dosent anyone find it strange, how the factory race cars, with no noise limits, cannot even make this claimed power so easily, so why should an aftermarket tuner do it?

Ive heard these silly claims for 'performance' exhausts all throughout my adult, driving life and not about to start believing them now....previously Id thought Larini had a good reputation, well this is a good way to ruin it in my eyes....I guess they think AM owners just believe this stuff and dare not go near a dynowink

If it were not an expensive way of being even more noisy, I would get my car dynoed independantly, get it fitted, then go back to the same place for another dyno run. When you get like 10bhp extra, take it back to Larini, ready for the excuses to come rolling out.

I would like it to be proven different, but £1800 is steep for a back-box that I can probably get custom made for £600 anyway !

Very interesting... if I don't take a DBS then I think I will do this. Bit worried about it being too loud though, anyone know how loud it would be compared to a Fuse 22'd Vantage?

I believe its LOAD, but how load I have yet to experience.

Good question on the insurance side of things I will go and investigate.

Look on larini website, my car is on their video section with just the rear box. I then had the cats done which made the sound more raw (50% increase )

What is your verdict on any increase in performance. Is sounds like you did it in two phases. Did the cats make a big difference?

Drove a car with the system fitted recently and have to say that, for me, it was too loud - in that it didn't suit the car. To me the V8 is, to use the obvious analogy, 007, in that up to 4,000rpm it is a well cut Saville Row suit with just the right level of threatening undertones and then, when provoked (or taken over 4,000rpm,) you discover the animal inside. Making it noisier, or indeed noisey all the time makes it too one dimmensional, too obvious, for me. getmecoat

Pugs, comments on the power difference? They're making pretty bold claims...

It's quite a while since I had my car and a good few months since I've driven a standard 'MK1', so I wouldn't like to comment on the difference, but it certainly didn't feel as pokey as the new 4.7 model - which I drove on the same day...................
FWIW I find their claims 'suprising' - for the reasons others have already outlined.

It made a real differance. The in gear pick up was better and the throttle response was improved. I had 0-60 tested at 4.68 0-100 improved by 1.21 seconds at Millbrook. Have now de- cated the car prior to selling and purchased a DB9. I have booked my DB9 in for a new rear box with Larini

I think I'm on the verge too. Am thinking of doing mine in September too. Got to pay for a trip to the Ring first at the end of this month. Would be interested to see your dyno data once you have fitted the system and see if it stacks up to their claims.
