So far as I'm aware there is no official confirmation of production yet, although my dealer is willing to take a R50k (3200 GBP) deposit to secure the chance to buy one should it come to fruition :P
They're 'having a laugh' asking you for a deposit jus! When I last asked AM Cambridge they were just taking letters of intent, would not take money unless forced to.
I am trying to work out, do I have time to get a Gallardo for a reasonable time before I get a Vantage V12. It'd be good as it's finish my race up the affordable cylinder count (had a 4 pot, then a 911, then Vantage...) The bid/ask spread and depreciation on a G is shccking so I'd want to have a reasonable run at it.

The concept one is meant to be at the Goodwood Festival, just in case anybody is interested.
Saw/heard it go up the hill on Friday. Sound wise, IMHO, it came a close second to the MacMerc and just ahead of the Lambo LP560, but streets ahead of all the other road cars going up the hill (most of which e.g the Maser Gran T, sounded distinctly average)Unfortunately the marketing department won again... It seems they are dumping the V12 Vantage down to 500bhp to make sure it does not make more horsepower than their precious DB9S... whoops I mean DBS.
Very disappointing.
I am on the list - #1 in fact but this will make me walk unless it is a minor price bump over a standard Vantage.
The 600bhp car that the mags got a go in sounded wonderful... fast, brutal, light, purpose built for speed... it was going to fill the huge gap in the AM product range. Compete with the Scud, Superleggera, GT3, etc. All of which have better technology, lighter chassis, etc. But the V12 Vantage was to be significantly lighter than stock Vantage and pack a 600bhp V12... Sold...
Not anymore... Now it sounds like a smaller DBS. Still a GT, still heavy, with a nominal power boost over the standard car, but AM will charge a huge premium.
I wish Aston with ignore their marketing team and come out with a fire breathing sports car... who cares if it has more power than the DBS.

500bhp in a smaller, lighter Vantage will do nicely thanks ...as long as they keep the price down to DB9 levels or lower ...so thats 80bhp over a standard 4.7 Vantage for a V12 "RS" version ...seems about right and in keeping with other manufacturers hot versions.
...also nice to know the engine has some scope left in it for tuning

Its not the headline power figure, it is about the heat generation.
I was working with a guy on my last job. He had just come from Aston and they were playing with a new car, but were having massive problems with the heat. As I was talking quite a bit with my local Aston dealer at the time, I thought the only thing it could be was a DBS, but that seemed to be just fine, so I was fairly confused by the guy. The car in question turned out to be the RS. The main problem with it as I understand has always been the sheer heat it was giving out from having the engine at full whack. By turning the wick down, they are solving the issue for a road car where the ordinary punter can live with it.
That is my understanding anyway.
