Hi all, after looking at various cars etc over the last month or so I am very very proud to say that I'll soon be taking delivery of a new Toro Red Vantage I do have a question regarding the gearbox though. I see from postings here that a notchy gearbox is fairly common but there is a dealer fix with a changed linkage and oil etc. Is this still the case on new cars or was this fix revised by the factory on later cars? I suppose what i really want to know is is it worth asking the dealer to sort this before i collect the car? Thanks in advance, any other tips etc welcome
Thanks for reply Onyx V8, my car is new, March 08 build. I drove a 55 plate the dealer was using as a demo. The gearbox felt a little stiff but got better after about 10 minutes in the car once everything had warmed up nicely. Am I right in thinking (as bogie said) that the factory has since remedied this problem and it only affected earlier cars? Have you had the linkage / oil change done on your car? Did this improve the gear shift feel?
If it's a new build then I'd have thought it would be standard now. The fix was a thinner oil and also a longer rake on the selector mechanism. Had mine done a couple of months back and it makes a world of difference. If you think the gears were a little stiff at this time of year, try a frosty morning in Feb. Suggest you have the conversation and make sure it's done pre delivery, if not already standard.

I believe that they have now fixed this for all new builds. I brought a 56 plate 07 spec which was having trouble changing into 2nd when cold. From reading the posts on here I assumed that it needed the mod, booked it in only to find out that it had already been done. The Dealer changed the clutch but it's still the same in that you have to force 2nd when cold, it goes in (mostly) but its like the clutch hasn't fully disengaged. It's better when warm but not perfect. They are going to have another attempt to fix the problem next week. Fingers crossed, although they have already said there's not much more they can do...So I might end up returning the car.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
