Hi Guys

I just noticed this in another thread! What does that do for my AMV8 then?

ensures the exhaust valve is open all the time, as opposed to above 4000 rpm.

But here is a funny thing. When I looked this mormning in the boot (right hand side) where the tyre pump stuff is and looked in that fuse box I have no fuse 22! Fuse 21 is a 30 amp but fuse 22 (the last fuse) is empty. This is on an 07 AMV8. My car is also only really loud when it gets above 4500.

2nd hand? Fuse removed already?

Better off getting Works Service to fit a button.....can be quiet, or loud, whenever you want to be.

How much did it cost to get that done CQ? Also am I to assume that my fuse is really missing in action? Should they not have picked that up at service?

it used to be £300. Switch is a little rocker on the underside of the steering column (above your left knee - assuming it's a RHD car)

Not necessarily Mark. Taking the fuse out is a matter of choice and who are the service department to question your decision.

Which is where it is on the photo. £300 is about right

Yes let's see some more pics as I like that combi too. Mine is All black leather with coarse silver stiching over Mercury Silver.

Will it damage my car running without the fuse. What actually does the fuse do? Or not do if it's missing smile

You can see more pics in my profile idea

Standard (fuse in)the exhaust valve will only fully open at around 4000 revs, non standard (fuse out) exhaust valve remains open even at low revs. There has been quite a debate as to whether removing the fuse actually causes an engine emissions light to appear in the instrument cluster. Pre switch and without fuse, I ran the car for some 4000 miles without such warning and I think that the consensus is that the warning light coming on was purely coincidental and not related.

Was it definitely fuse 22 you were looking at. IIRC (which I may well not) there's a spare slot in the end of that row.

My #22 is definitely a 20A and from memory 21 is a 30A, so sounds like yours is indeed out already, although would agree with Murph that there is an additional slot after #22.

I've tried in and out at various times and now just remove it for a few days when I fancy being a bit lairy. Possible that you wouldn't notice too much difference unless you combine it with a bit of heavier foot usage. It's not just naturally loud at tick over or if you drive gently; I find that when you push on a bit you really get the effect. Note that all cars will basically be loud when you get to 4500, it's just the the AMV is utterly delicious at that level.

Suprised it was not picked up at the service? Is the car still under warranty?

mark - did you get any further with fuse 22? My 07 amv8 owner manual says F22 is in the engine bay and rated at 5A described as Mass ouflow sensors (l &r) which I took to be left and right equating to the exhaust valves on both left and right... Wrong...

Anyway. Took a deep breath and removed F22 from engine bay, turned ignition key, pressed starter, engine started, then stalled as if running out of gas. Very deflating. Left with the impression that I shouldn't fiddle and best leave it to the Works.

The mass air flow sensor that you removed measures the amount of air in the air in take (L&R as it is a V8). Your car should stall if you remove this fuse! There is nothing telling the computer how much air is flowing and therefore the engine has no idea how much fuel to provide, hence it stalls as no air=no need for fuel. The 'other' 22 is in the boot of the car.
