only asking as I spent a very enjoyable couple of hours looking over one at Geneva in the company of the Northern Europe after sales manager. Left all my contact details & impressively received a letter from AM European Director 2 days later to confirm that my local dealership would be getting in touch shortly to arrange an appointment to have an extended test drive.

One month later, no contact.

Doesn't exactly inspire one to bother frown

Well they arent making many, and 5 of those are making the new Bond film. Then the pre production ones in the last film...

They probably dont need people to walk in off the street- I would imagine there are enouygh people willing to pay a premium over the dealers price to make sure they secure one.

...Or you're right. Its crap service. Can you go elsewhere?

What I find disappointing is that the attention to detail in geneva was spot on, attentive & professional, right down to checking which dealers I'd prefer to contact me (wouldn't touch my local one with the proverbial or anyone elses for that matter!), double checked they had all details correct and the promised confirmation letter duly arrived immediately.

How can AM get it so right in Europe and their dealers soooooooo wrong in GB?

blot, it seems that you have had a bad time. May i suggest giving Ron a call at Stratstone Aston Martin Mayfair. I enquired about one and he is excellent. Ring up and ask for Ron and say that Chris Reynolds recommended you to call him, that should see you right.

Which dealer did you ask to be contacted by?

Hope this helps.

Bit of a journey Chris but thanks for the suggestion! Was Stratstone I'd put as options, either Tyne & Wear or Derby if I remember correctly.

Had a very informative time with Dennis Opstal the after sales manager based in Holland, gave up 2 hours of his time during geneva to discuss the DBS, which I thoroughly appreciated and left the stand feeling that the company could win over my custom.

My only real concern about AM was my previous experience of a dealership who shall remain nameless (but they are based in Leedslaugh) who managed to patronise my wife to a level I could only dream of, which resulted in us walking out without even sitting in a DB9, never mind test driving one.

Perhaps I'm setting my expectation of customer service too high?

I always make a point of following up any enquiries in my work personally and ensure people receive the correct information as required and fail to see how a business that should be totally focussed on customer needs can fail with such a basic step. AM is a desirable brand, the DBS a beautiful car, it shouldn't be hard to persuade me to sign up, but it seems a simple step too far, it's not as if there isn't plenty of other options to look at.

Semi rant over!

blot,

You expectations are not set too high. That should never happen. Aston Martin are selling a premium product and the customers should be treated as such.

It does sound like you have had a bad run and i have to admit i have not the smoothest time with AM dealers in the past. A good way i found to obtain the best customer service is to call the head office in Gaydon. Explain your situation and ask for a solution in the form of a recommended salesman. At first they say all of them but do not go about complaining and dropping names (except the patronising one) and simply say you want to buy a car that comes with the standard of service that you expect.

Let me know how it turns out, should be a good one!

Let's get real

Before you rush to slate the dealer, you are sure the lead was passed on from Aston?

According to the letter from the European director, which included details of which dealers I had selected, yes........

My experience of prestige brands is that service varies hugely between dealers, but the South East tends to be worse. My sister and I bought cars at more or less the same time this year. Both of us had some problems with the cars. My sister's Ford dealer sorted them out straight away whilst the Aston dealer was useless, arrogant and rude. I've now found a dealer outside the South East who has fixed the car and gives the sort of service you'd expect. I haven't compared prices but I expect they're cheaper too. Needless to say I'll be using them for servicing etc.
