Any one know about AM V8 clutch’s ?? …

I have an 06 AMV8, 10k miles, owned it for about 1,000 miles so far. I’m 6ft with big feet .. and am used to nice easy / normal clutch action of ‘sports’ cars. In fact, any normal car.

Here's the problem. When changing gear I have to push the clutch pedal in for what seems like 10 inches of travel, even though the bite/release point seems to be over and done with in the first couple of inches of clutch depression. If I attempt to just press it in a bit and do the gear change, the gearbox does not like it much and I am always fearful of a crunched gear change.

As a result of all of this, I cannot do a swift change up when accelerating hard and the whole experience makes me back off from trying. Which kinda defeats the purpose of the car …

But worse than that, I am finding myself having to lift my leg right off the carpet due to the amount of pedal travel. The clutch pedal action does not lend itself to levering my foot on my ankle as I would in any other car.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else ?

Or, can the clutch pedal travel / bite point be adjusted ??

Or is it just a worn clutch ?!

Any advice appreciated.

not trying to be funny here, but shouldn't you always use the full travel of the clutch pedal to ensure it is fully disengaged? I've never dared to do any different. In fact, after having a sport clutch in my old car. It was imperative that I depress the pedal completely.

more or less, yes ! BUT ... the pedal travel is twice what it is in any other car I own or have driven, even though the release/bite point 'seems' to happen early on in the overall pedal movement. But like I described before, it doesnt feel quite like its working correctly and a bit recalcitrant.

It might be a problem unique to my car, but have any other AM V8 owners experienced something similar ?

Is there any adjustment in the overall clutch-pedal travel ? If so, I'd ideally opt to have the pedal much closer to the footwell/bulkhead so it can be used like any other car.

Maybe the clutch is worn, but the car is only 10k miles, I'm not one for doing drop-clutch starts. Although I have no idea what the former owner was like.

Maybe the plate worn, but its only 10k miles I'm not one for doing drop-clutch starts. Cant say if the former owner was though.
THe pedal behave no diffrently to the civic type-r or 996 I've driven. Maybe it is your car in particular?

The pedal on my car feels like it's risen quite a bit of late (to the point where I can now slip my foot under it from the foot rest).

I'm fearing the clutch might be wearing...

I had a test drive of a Vantage last week, (not buying the car as the age/spec is wrong for me), but I had EXACTLY the same experience that you have described. The bite point was half way up, but I was crunching the gears unless I mashed the pedal into the axminster!
I spoke to the saleman, who tried the car himself but he didn't see the problem.

Is it just us Steath, or are there others out there? (queue Heroes intro music....)

On a serious note though, I'll be mighty pissed off if the car that I've ordered has the same problem, (not driven it yet as the garage have sourced my exact spec through the trade and the car arrives next week).
