New Aston V8 with 420bhp or a used Ferrari F430???

About to swap an ageing Vanquish S for a newer, more nimble car...this is the current dilemma - any feedback would be welcome -- what would you do?
The new Aston V8 due in August will have a 4.7 litre engine and 420 bhp, as well as DBS dash and sports pack....
or for the same money, a late 05 or 06 F430 in a subtle colour?
F430 = more exciting, better near perfect drive
AMV8 = prettier, less in your face, should go better too
As the car will spend a decent amount of time in London (but not in much traffic) -- which way is best???

There are Pro's and Con's too both.
The F430 is without question one of the greatest driving machines around. If you buy a 55 or 06 plate a large chunk of depreciation is all ready done. However regardless of colour they stand out a mile in the crowd, and I'm not sure of the practicality around town.
The Vantage on the other hand will be a great all rounder, one of the most beautiful cars ever built (I may be slightly biased though ) but subtle with it, you can park it on the street without fear. practical with plently of luggage space, but enought 'Go' to keep you smiling. And, if your speccing from new you get to choose the options and colour combo.

You have to answer that question yourself.
The two cars (V8 and 430) are chalk and cheese. For the same price, the 430 will be much older and will likely have a lower spec. In fact, you cannot yet get a 430 for V8 money, even if you bought the cheapest 430 and most expensive V8 (coupe). Well OK, it may *just* be possible now
Other than a Lambo, there is no car that makes people stare like a Ferrari. None. That sort of attention is amusing at first, but some will find it irksome after not very long.
I also have a distinct distaste for Ferrari main dealers. Most of them make clinking noises when they walk on account of the spurs attached to their Hush Puppies.
However, the 430 will be in a different league performance wise. It's much more powerful (15% at least) and much lighter (similar amount). It will cost more to service etc, but *may* depreciate less (jury's out on this one as I reckon 430s will start to come off value wise quite rapidly now, and definitely in a year's time when the new stuff comes out). It is a bigger car which can make it more tricky to hustle at speed on narrow roads.
The Aston is very subdued. Most people don't notice it. When they do it's always positive (though I never had a bad reaction in my 355 to be fair). The car performs very, very well despite it's lard and lack of ultimate power. Every single person who's commented to me on the car that knew me when I had the 355 notes that the Aston is "classier". Whatever that means. It's certainly a very nice car to spend time in. Oh, and it makes a stonking noise (as good as a Ferrari, though different).
There is no definitive news on the punchier version I believe. Though there are people that can extract more gusto out of the current car.
Try both and see where your heart is.
btw, if you can cope with a slightly stripped out interior, I reckon you'd be better off with a 360CS. You will lose very little depreciation wise, and if you want a focussed driver's tool, there's no alternative at this price level. But it's a very different car again.

Oh no it isn't...The large chunks will come off around 6mths after its successor comes on stream (which I believe will be next year). Dealers etc are only just starting to come to terms with not being able to charge list for an old car.
There's still a fair way between the best 360s and the oldest 430s. Expect that gap to go to zero and from there who knows.
%age depreciation of the car will be good. But a smaller percentage of a big number is still a big number.

I did have a DB7GT which I traded for a V8 vantage.
Whilst the V8 is a great car it doesn't have anything like the character or 'warmth' that the 7 had.
I've driven a Vanquish S recently and think you might find a V8V a little 'soul-less' in comparison.
My advice would be to have at least 2 very long test drives.

I went from 2 V8 Vantages to a F430 and I agree with Murph, they are chalk and cheese.
The F430 is not as easy to use every day, in fact I ended up buying a new 330d to use as an everyday car. The 430 is (IMO) 50% more than what the V8 Vantage is in terms of a drivers car, feedback, outright pace, handling, etc etc.
I also agree with the other post above, if money were no object I would have both a V8 Vantage for everyday 'fun' (handles very well, ideal for long trips, power/engine that allows you to wind it up and enjoy the sound) and the F430 for weekends etc.
If you still have trouble deciding just get both, one after the other of course! They are both great cars that I love(d) every minute of

I'm definitely hugely keen on an F430 but can't bear to part with my Vantage, so it's going to have to be both for me. Such different cars and I love them both. The F430 is definitely the more hard-charging sportscar of the two, and being front-engined the Vantage is so much more practical too.
I had some fun the other weekend with a fiend of mine who has a F430 Scud. I got to experience both cars back to back. The F430 is a fantastic car, exceptional in every way, but to tell you the truth I preferred the V8V. I know I probably had my rose tints on for the V8V but for a road car it is plenty quick enough to be dangerous, I found the F430 mentally fast. Went to overtake a car doing 60 mph on one of my favorite roads, overtook with a small amount of beans, then suddenly I was doing 150mph...madness. It was very binary to drive, all "lets see what this baby can do....ohh my god it is too fast"...where as the Aston you can have real fun at the limit without being really really fast. Also I found the F430 a little embarrassing, you sort of have to apologise for having such a fantastic car, where as the Aston fits in well with most situations.
If I spend my life doing RMA trackdays or posing in London then the F430 would win it, but as a general motoring proposition I would go for the V8V.

2 different cars IMO - Id take the Aston, as it has to be useable daily for me...and I just couldnt see myself leaving the 430 in the multi-storey at the airport, in the shopping centre etc, whereas the Aston dosent draw toooo mucch attention.
