Yeah, but in the same article, they described how AM are still pressing ahead with the "DB5" as well as the v12 DB9. Must admit I was a bit confused, simply because it's unlikey to be called the V8 Vantage, doesn't mean it's not the same car. It's a bit like saying the Project Vantage was canned, yet they're going to build the Vanquish instead (same car in my opinion - albeit one the concept pre-cursor).

Auto Express can be a bit of a comic at times....

I was a bit confused as well - which is a bit of a bummer as I was thinking of finally putting my name down for one....

Fear not Joust - the DB9 (DB7 replacement) is just weeks away from being revealed, and will be followed by the production version of the v8 Vantage some time next year (according to Car and Evo magazines this month - and I'm more inclined to believe them!)

The v8 Vantage test mules look almost identicle to the concept car....so finger's crossed it'll look just as stunning when it goes on sale.

Excellent - a trip off to the local AM dealer is in order.

I was thinking of HWM near Walton - know anything about them? Good / bad?

Top Gear car mag claim they will be revealing the DB9 in the next issue - it's due to be launched at the Franfurt show in September (this year).

Ignore what Auto Express claim....I too have seen piccies of the v8 Vantage concept/DB5 (whatever you want to call it) mules out testing. I guess this has an on sale date of '05.

HWm is the oldest dealer in the UK, and is Ok. However, for the real deal, go to Newport Paganll: the place where they make 'em...

st170j....you seem pretty well informed. Do you have insider information??

Unfortunately, I get my info from the car mags (some usually more acurate than other). I think I first saw the DB5 tag in Autocar...seems to have stuck! Personally don't care what it's called....cos it's blimmin' gorgeous

Top Gear cannot have the finished version then, as I said it is still 2 generations away from being the completed car (already quicker than a Vanquish though , bar top speed), there are ones going around but not the finished car. They will not be on sale till early next year, around Feb time.
Also if you go to Newport Pagnall you may be dissapointed as they do not make them there and will not be when the time comes either, lol
The press pack on the '05 model calls it the AMV8 Vantage, why anybody would think Aston would call it DB5 is beyond me as it is not in the DB range and they are already up to DB9 :P !!

How do you know what the 2005 press pack says??

It's not the 2005 press pack, it is the press pack I got around the start of the year. What I meant was the press pack I have about the model that is coming out in 2005.

WilliamP - Sorry to disappoint mate, but you can't order a car direct from Newport Pagnell. They are the factory and will only refer you to your nearest dealer as they don't sell cars direct. They only do servicing there (Works Service).

Dunno,,to be honest it was £60 bid with 3 days to go,,,you know how these things work...5 mins before close they get bid up.
I got mine on a blag,,,i managed to get myself and about 10 pistonheaders up to the new Aston HQ to review (visually) the new AMV8 along with 360,996 & vanquish,,,we told them what we thought, they fed us and gave us £200,,,some of the guys got to meet Dr Bez himself..not too bad at all....It gives me hope when I see how well Bez has done since he left the Happy Mondays!

Don't know if I am too late Joust, but HWM in Walton are a good dealer. They have a refreshing approach to things. They might not look much from the outside, but all the guys have been with Aston for years.

I went to them for my cars and my father-in-law's and have to say they do look after us.
