Expertise from the panel please!

having sold what was the residual disater of the decade- the Gallardo some time ago ive been sensible for a while and realise how nice it is to drive a reliable 'normal car' a merc amg. It would seem that no one wants agallardo SH and the early models were poor IMO.

which brings me neatly on to the AMv8. I like the look of it but I want an 06 car- not a higher priced one.
What would I have to pay for that? Is it going to be reliable? -clutch, will it start, gearbox ectect.

Or is it the view that its newer or dont bother on the reliability stakes? what options are considered important? what should I look for? and what colour looks best IYO? to me silver is somehwta lost on the car- mid blu and black seem to suit it!

If the stories are true about poor clutch life- why is it that BMw can build a far higher performance car and yet get 40K out of a clutch?

So options are a 996TT anotehr slkamg or a amv8!

comments please!

Seems the clutches are car depending, there are some bad experiences, but the majority seems to be OK. Something to do with the alignment of the prop shaft. My dealer says he has only done two, the two P1 Cars they look after. They look after Goodwood circuits car, and that is always in for breaks, tires and the such like but the clutch is OK.

I drive mine hard, and it has been totally reliable (I cannot belive that it is 2 years old now) (even more reliable than the Porsche's/Audi's/Lotus that I have or have had). If you get a decent 06 then you sould be OK for depreciation for some time, as they have lost loads already.

People will comment that it is 'slow' (and probably is compared to the Gallardo or 911 Turbo's) but it is very involving to drive and I have never found it wanting for speed, you do need to 'drive' it tho, with a heavy dose of right foot and bravery in the corners!
