I'm thinking of buying a 2005 DB9 privately and wondered whether anyone here had bought an extended AM warranty from a dealer.

If so, how much is it, and is it worth getting?

thanks

If the original warranty has expired, it is about £1600 for a year (or £3200 for two). If you extend before the end of the mfr warranty, then the cost comes down to £1500 (or £3000 for two years). On top of that, you need to add on the cost of a 140 point check (though dealers will reduce the labour cost of that if you combine it with a service).

I think that there is a limit of £2000 per claim and certain items that wear are not covered. On the whole, I prefer the piece of mind that it gives (and the ease of resale - it is transferable, though I think there is something odd that dealers can't transfer but private punters can), so I will put this on my 05 at the next service (selling in May).

No it wouldn't, although I don't know of any issues with DB9 gearboxes.

But i suppose its the same for the vanquish and that does have a few reamining issues doesnt it ? Starting to look for a vanquish S and as such waranties might be the key to me buying or not buying

I'm not sure about where the limit is struck (or if ther is one - but I am confident there is one). It is a question to ask of the dealer / seller. I think this is also applied on a "per problem" basis (ie if the gearbox goes and it costs £3k then 2k is covered but if at the same time, say the instrument pack goes AWOL for £1k then the warranty pays out £3k of the £4k bill). I've never looked too closely because I never had to claim much (though I would note that suspension bushes on a DB7 are not covered - wear and tear).

Also I'd think any car with an aftermatrket warranty will have a limit per claim.

True, although (a) maybe the Vanquish warranty is more and (b) I doubt the waranty covers wear-and-tear and hence not the clutch.

Let's get real

If you buy a car that has a portion of the Manufacturer's warranty to run, you can extend this. There is no individual claim limit, other than an aggregate up to the price paid for the car.

If the car is out of Manufacturer's warranty there is an individual claim limit of £5k, with the total still being the price of the car.

Let's get real, thanks - my dealer just told me that today. So I'm going to find a car within the three year warranty and then extend it for full coverage. cool
