Dear all,

I have a friend who has set his heart on a Vanquish and has a budget of approx £120k.

He intends to use the car daily and keep it for about a year. I have already counselled that a DB9 is a better choice for a daily driver, but his heart won't be swayed.

So... where would the smart money go? A late, standard car with lower miles and SDP or is it worth holding out for the S model?

Is there anything in particular to look out for?

Test drives etc to follow, but any initial help from those in the know would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

By coincidence I have seen both these Aston Martins in the last seven days. Kevin Jordan and Stratton Motor Co I can recommend, having bought my V8V there last year. The Vanquish looked very impressive too.

Equally Martyn Hollywood at Lancaster ( Cambridge ) is easy to talk to. I`ve not experienced their after sales service yet as the SL55 AMG I purchased, I don`t collect until next Thursday. The showroom is just off the M11. Again the Vanquish looked stunning.

Another vote for Strattons. I deal with Tim Reed - Joint MD.

Love to hear how you get on with the Merc mikial. It's a car I've been seriously tempted by on a few occassions - it appears to fulfill so many rolls. Only a slight question mark in my mind over image has stopped me taking the plunge but if a man of your tastes has committed then maybe I should reconsider. I remember getting the EVO longterm car airborne on one occassion up on the N Yorks moors. There was a deafening bang when we landed and I was convinced the rear axle had come through the floor. Harry M sitting next to me quietly said "that'll be the rear roll bars popping up then - the car must think we're about to turn over". Remarkably cool I thought - given it was his car.

What yer like Pugsey !!! They don`t have anti roll bars , ABC ( ACTIVE BODY CONTROL) instead, which those nice people at DMS can re-programme while ---( computers and hydraulic pumps , oh no, more to go wrong )---- they put a smaller pulley on t`supercharger to get that very necessary 550 bhp/550 lbft torque !!!

Seems like a hoot , less than 40k for a 26thousand miler with a solid M B renewable warranty , love the Aston but wringing its neck to get the required urge constantly got tiresome .I used to be a barrow boy in sarf London so the image is right up my street, tint those windows baby , nice set of Kahn 22 inchers and slam that muva to the deck !!!!!

I shared the same concern , its a default mode applied by ebay , nothing sinister.

Yes, but it`s all grist to the mill.
Now, with the danger of incurring the wrath of my fellow A. M. owners for going off topic ( albeit for not much longer, because like you Pugsey I will be a lapsed defender of the marque ) I see you still are enjoying the 430 , forgive me if you`ve posted elsewhere , it`s a keeper , a long term-er or have you something different in the near future arriving as a replacement . ?

My profile is a little out of date - the 430 went just before Christmas. But only because I'd done a stonking buy back deal with the dealer that meant it would have been stupid not to sell it back. I'm just waiting to hear when the F149 will be launched - if that is not until '09 as I suspect then I'll get in to another 430 this spring. Tbo I'm sold on the car - probably the first car I've owned that offers MORE than I expected and no longer really interested in much else. A unique position for me and strangley relaxing! Having said that cars on order include F149, F430 replacement, any new Aston, GT-R, Merc., Macca, R8 versions, Bentley, various Porsches etc. etc etc - much as you'd expect really. But as I say currently it's the F430 for me. smile What would be REALLY nice would be an AMV8 with a good honest 450bhp - forget all these daft 600bhp V12 ideas - that would be just right IMO.

With similar apologies for going OT.

Come on, Pugsey, don't say you won't put an order on a V12 Vantage if they put it into production! I'd be disappointed given that list wink

Would you be happy to have an R8 TDI?

(Apologies for the OTness, again. Just to contribute, I adore the Vanquish and it's amazing value for £120k, I think...)

I did say ANY NEW ASTON didn't I?wink The diesel R8 would be interesting - what would it feel like to drive a 'supercar' but not rev it I wonder. Any old how - nice to have the option at least. Whether I'll want half of them come the time will depend on how they drive. My comment on the V12 was merely to say that they ought to arrive at where the standard Vantage SHOULD be before coming up with super dooper v. limited editions which in reality are pretty meaningless.
