Vantage Vs 911 Carrera S
Discussion
Lots of views previously here and on the AMOC forum. Problem is, you're going to get pretty partisan answers
I think the general consensus is that the Pork is more "every day" and the Aston more "special". So depends what you want from a car.
Speed and handling wise there's not much to choose between them.
I've yet to own a 911, and think the 997's a nice car. Will probably go for an earlier 911 at some point though.

Hi is a weekend car with a use a couple of times durig the week. Trouble is I have to keep it on the street in south west london.
Love the look of the aston, love hte fact there are not hundreds about ( althogh one on my street and not Porsche's!) But worried would not be a good car on the street. ad become a liability
Thanks Joe

Check the insurance situation, but I'd be no more concerned about leaving it there than any other nice car.Love the look of the aston, love hte fact there are not hundreds about ( althogh one on my street and not Porsche's!) But worried would not be a good car on the street. ad become a liability

none really as they were all factory recall/fixes that should have been done on the early cars: stiff gearchange from cold, squeaky brakes etc.
If you buy a used one, unless its never been used then its likely it will have had paint on the nose and rear arches - they are really vulnerable to stone chips...check that its obviously a nice job (or look for a car with the stone protection film on)
I know on my car, the rear arches are so peppered they will need a respray - funnily enough, I notice on all the new cars being supplied they come with film as std that goes to the top of th rear arches, rather than just the lower section as on the earlier cars

I had the 996 911 turbo S and now have the AM V8.
The C4S is quite a lot slower than the turbo, but both are quicker than the V8
The Porker is so well planted and has extrodinay grip in the wet due to the 4x4 and very clever electronics. It has decades of slow incremental development, so is almost bullet-proof. It's pant-wettingly quick, even in snow and ice.
It's a truly great sports car. If you want to get from A to B quickly in any weather, the 911 HAS to be the car.
However - The AMV8 is just SO much more fun to drive. It may be slower... but hey, why rush? The longer I'm in it, the better.
Don't just test drive it - hire one for a weekend... only then will you get the big picture.

Having owned both I think you need to try them and find out which you prefer. The 911 is probably the better car performance wise but the Aston is better looking and special. It's all about what does it for you. On the parking on the street aspect, the Aston may be better - I parked mine in all sorts of places without anyone damaging it and people do view them with much more affection than the Porsche.
Hello there,
I would say that the Porsche is more reliable due to it being German and the general running costs would be lower aswell as insurance. A bloke I knew got 35mpg out of his 996 Turbo and the new ones would be better.
But the thing is.........A Porsche is not an Aston!
Personally, I would take the Aston V8 because it is ' more special ' than a Porsche. You say you live in London? Carrera's are like Corsa's there whilst Astons are rarer and sexier looking.
Both fantastic cars in thier own rights and your a lucky man to be in the situation where you are presented by such a difficult choice (For some). lol.
Many thanks,
Olie

Having used my 996 Turbo for the last 3 years - every day and having put 50k mileson it.....there is no way you will see anything like 35mpg.
Even on a long motorway run you'll get late twenties max (at least thats what my experience has been).
As for the car, it's been absolutely superb ... in every way and in normal a-b driving I doubt there is a quicker car.
Never let me down, reasonable servicing at a specialist indy.
Car now on 73k and never missed a beat .... although if ANYTHING ever needs doing it'#s just done without question.
HOWEVER .... I must say that I have had "the ITCH" for some time now.
The car is just too good iff that makes any sense at all.
I had a Cerb, then a Tuscan Red Rose and I do miss the noise, the event of driving the car etc ....
The Porker does get 'nice car mate' everywhere I go, and I have not once experienced any of the 'ill feeling towards Porsche Drivers' ever.
If you are looking for an everyday machine that you can jump into, without even contenplating whether the car will get you there, and not being even cautious about a 500 mile round trip - I can vouch for the Porsche (not owned an aston).
If you are looking for an event every time you drive the car ..... aston or fezza in my opinion.
FYI - I have just bought a Jag to use every day so that I am free to satisfy ny itch with one of these two.
Hope it helps .... buying a car shouldn't be so damn tough should it !!!!!
