Looking for some guidance/opinions and help on which of the above we should buy.

Requirements:
Looking at 3 year old cars with 2+2 seats (not optional!), it's got to be suitable for every day use.
We need to fit a baby and a 7 year old in the back.
Don't like the image of the Bentley GT.

Thanks.

I think the 612 is the most practical (if you won't go the Bentley route). But it's fugly as hell.

DB9 is beautiful and can just about do a baby (forward-facing seat only in the back) and a 7 yo (my 12yo will still get in the back if the seat is fully forward. Boot is small.

Haven't looked in the back of a 997 but 911's are about DB9 sized.

Actually, have you thought of the Maserati Gran Tourismo - new only right now but cheaper than these cars second hand, I'd have thought. A real looker. Not looked into the back seats but if its anything like the old model, it had more space in the back than the 9 or 911. Will fall in value faster than a fridge thrown from a plane, though...

If you can afford any of these buy something else for the family stuff. Then buy the one that makes your willy twitch for yourself.

I love the 997 and it'll fit ISO FIX seats. 612 manual is a pig of a clutch - you'll end up with East German shotputter thighs - I did not even test drive it for that reason (I have dodgy knees).

DB9 does not have much room in the back.

The Ferrari 612 in my opinion looks beautiful and on the raod provides an understated elegance. Thats my choice, or a DB9. A very special car.

612 is the choice, the other too are far less practical and carry much less presence

Carry less presense? A DB9 vs a 612? Nope, sorry don't see that. Less practical, yes.

I haven't drive the DB9 (although I understand it is excellent) but the 612 is more interesting (I can already hear the ugly comments coming, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder) as far as I can tell. Much more power, bigger and the interior is leaps and bounds ahead.

As for road presence, I think that the DB9 just blends in a bit too well.

I'm not a particularly big Aston fan but I still think the DB9 is one of the most beautiful cars on the road and certainly has a very big presence and one that is of class rather that ostentation

The 612 is the most practical out of the 3, plus the most rare.

DB9 doesn't have big enough seats to fit anything more than a bag of shopping. Porsche is to common for me.

Could also consider a Vanquish. I did - and would definately recommend it.

Shame, I've come round to loving the Continental GT. Beautiful interior, massive presence, stonking performance. Does have a bit of a negative image but in the right colour I think it looks great.

Otherwise, how about a Quattroporte?

QP shouldn't even be used in the same thread with DB9.

Complete and utter bilge.................imo

And you think a DB9 isn't ostentatious?? I reckon the big Ferraris blend in quite easily; the Maranello certainly did although I suspect that the 599 won't. The DB9 is good looking, but in my opinion it's like driving a mid engined Ferrari.

nononono

Nothing like it at all. Had a 360 (in a restrained TDF Blue). Like driving around with a flashing neon "look at me" sign strapped to the car - people point and gesticulate.

Now on my second DB9 (with added sports exhaust). Nothing near the same reaction - in fact, reaction is barely perceptible.

Also, Fezzas seemed to polarise opinion - passers by consider you either a hero (thumbs up) or a twunt (hand action akin to shaking a bottle). Most people don't know what the Aston is other than a "preeety car". I can't think of a negative reaction I've had in three and a half years of ownership.

Ok, that was an exaggeration, but all the girls always point at DB9s and say how much they like them, and all the guys comment on the noise Astons make when someone puts their foot down.

I think the 612 is relatively stealthy, and is in a very different league, aimed at a different consumer. I have seen plenty drive around and no one seems to notice, whereas if there's a DB9 stopped at the lights, people always seem to point it out to their friends.

I haven't driven a DB9, so I wouldn't comment on that compared to a 612, but in this instance, I can't see how a DB9 can compete.

Well Mr Zagato man.....I think you summed it up well.

Although I haven't owned a Ferrari for a few years now but I have owned 456 (yuk) 360's and 575 and without doubt these cars stand out and I remember feeling very very embarassed sitting in traffic in one. Yes you get the pleasant acknowledgement but you also get quite a few of the unauthodox javelin hand grip gestures.

Although I don't own a DB9 personally whenever I'm in my wifes's the car gets many admiring glances and never the other.

Thanks so much for your comments, we've finally decided....We were going to go for the Porsche, however have finally decided on the Aston, so DB9 it is.
