Prodrive Vantage
Discussion
There's a prodrive vantage for sale at a dealer close to me. 3k miles, 56 plate, 1 owner, prodrive engine/exhaust upgrade and just under 70k.....
seems like a decent enough price, Claims 97k purchase price, if so that's some major depreciation! I'm going to have a look as I fancy a change. Anything other than the obvious I should look out for?

Purchase price will be the cost of the car plus the cost of conversion. So would expect some decent factory options on the car too. This isn't a factory sanctioned upgrade so I'm not sure the pricing ("depreciation" wise) of the car necessarily works that way...
Think the biggest difficulty is that there aren't many cars out there that have had this done yet, so who knows on reliability. Yes Prodrive cover the bits they tweak with their own warranty, but I'm not sure I'd want to risk getting caught between two warranty providers if something went wrong on a 70k car...
I suspect this may be the reason that not too many of these upgrades have been done yet - that and the bang per buck...plus firmer rumours that the factory will be providing more power at some point not too far away (even if it can't be retrofitted, pricing will dictate whether the Prodrive route looks sensible).
If it were me I'd be inclined to wait for a bit and see what gets released...or perhaps buy a cheaper, non-modified car to enjoy for now.

I'm not sure about this - I for one was invited to drive a Prodrive Vantage by my local main dealer a few months ago. Prodrive is owned by David Richards (inter alia) who is of course now chairman of Aston, so whilst there may be no Aston warranty legally, there's a clear commercial interest in doing it right. Prodrive have run the AML racing teams, including Vantages, for Aston for a few years now - see the latest Aston magazine for Ulrich Bez and David Richards promoting the privateers cars.

But if it were that cut and dry, why would the factory not simply say "don't worry, your warranty's fine"? Both firms are very clear what the score is which I reckon leaves the punter with a good bit of risk... Despite the personnel, I'm not sure I'd be risking it with a car in warranty.
And the rumours of a more potent factory car are rife.
Incidentally, I reckon one would be lucky if the Prodrive mods actually gave the car the power the factory reckon it has as standard
