I've just come back from a few days abroad to find someone has attempted to break in through the front grill!!

A few pieces of the grill have been removed, the side of the number plate holder smashed and general scuffing to that area.

Does anybody know what's behind this?

My concern is that they were looking for the tracker and were disturbed half way through.

The car is parked in a gated area beside my apartment which seems relatively secure.

Any ideas what they could be going for?

I assume that the car has Air bags.
If chav scum can find the G sensor and hit it with a hammer it will fire the airbags which, on many cars, will also trigger the central locking.

This is done so that emergency services can gain access to any injured occupants of a crashed car.

Not on a V8V, if ignition is off and car locked (CEM asleep mode) airbags are disabled.

i suspect they were simply trying to get to the bonnet release catch, which is actually quite difficult to get to on V8V even with the grill out, cause all the intake air ducting stuff is in the way.

over the years i have manged to lock myself put of a few cars.the aa guys always ,in my experience , open the bonnet and then undo grommets in the bulkhead to reach into the car with bits of wire.sounds like too much hassle for a car thief

Are you sure this is the work of thieves rather than somebody having reversed into your car with a trailer hook?

I thought about that, but is really specific localised damage - maybe a trailer hook could have done it and they then tried fixing it. Very strange indeed. Have booked it in to HWM to get it looked at after the New Year.

I have been told (by someone who should know) that driving into most (modern) stationary vehicles at between 4-5mph will automatically unlock all doors.

Could be?
