Had a report back after the first Dealer Launch of the DBS at Fuji Speedway in Japan.

Basically, DBS and DB9 on track, the dealers and selected customers got 3 laps in each around Fuji.

DBS did 90 laps back to back (barring lunch), and all it needed in the middle of the day was a new set of fronts. By the end of the day it needed another set of fronts and some rears, but that is all it needed. No TLC had to be applied once.

Also told the brakes felt as good at the end of the day as they did at the beginning.

Bear in mind both cars were driven by Astons own instructors flown out from the UK, the DBS turned onto the start of the mile straight as the DB9 was just at the end of it, by the end of the next lap, the DBS was a mere 2 or 3 car lengths behind the DB9 (2.8 mile lap IIRC).

DBS carried around 10kph through the corners with ease and didn't have to brake for the corners until, and I quote, "a week later than the DB9", lol...

To quote one of the instructors : "I have never driven a 'road' car on a track day that faired as well as the DBS". The quote was meant in terms of how much the car required TLC during the day (fluids, brakes, tyres, etc..) as opposed to outright speed/handling etc... As the list of 'road' cars driven on track (during 15/20 odd years of experience)include Porsche, Ferrari, et al, that's not a bad comment at all !!

As the DBS had delivery mileage and they had to finsh running it in before the event, I think what it managed was quite impressive what with just being an 'off the peg' car.

This is not an Aston vs another marque thread, nor a DBS is better on track than another marque thread, or even a lets discuss what we think of the looks thread, it's just something I thought may be of interest to certain readers on the forum smile

Also makes a nice to change to hear a good report on the car smile

im very new to the website but really have found the insight and passion helpful and interesting....i nearly bought an lp640 a few months ago and really appreciated the comments and advice from the people on this site....i now have a slot for the DBS in march08...and although from one of the other threads it seems they are sold out for 2 yrs...i think given the bonus carnage at the end of the yr you will see that waiting period come down..signifficantly...as for the DBS i only have 1 comment..manual gearbox!!...finally!!...i had a vanquish S which was achingly beautiful..but rubbish..im sorry...maybe i just got a bad one..but it was. i love the idea of driving an aston hard for 90 laps and only having to replace the rubber..makes me very excited.

Would be interesting to know if anyone else has a build slot/ETA on their DBS to see how much of a waiting list there really is....
