Should have bought a Vanquish....
Discussion
I bought a DB9 a few months ago.. Was considering a Vanquish but thought I would be sensible and go for the DB9 considering the reliability I hear about the Vanquish etc. Should have followed my heart!
Anyway I have not been doing many miles (due to crap traffic) so now wish I had bought the Vanquish and am looking at changing. Stupid idea?
Anyone any clue as to how the Vanquish's sell, as it will probably be sold mid next year due to a 3rd member of the family. DB9's seem to be one to a penny at the moment and as the car will be going some time next year, perhaps it would be better simply sticking with the DB9. Don't mind taking a little hit but don't wish to be stuck with anything.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Rob

Similar situation to you recently. The wife fancied treating herself to a new DB9 but prefered the look of the Vanquish when we arrived at the dealer. They strongly advised not to buy a Vanquish on grounds of reliability, so DB9 it is.
I think it's the right choice as the only thing that depreciates more than a DB9 is a Vanquish.

had a similar thing when my uncle was looking to get back into an Aston recently, went to the dealer and the choice immediately came between the DB9 and Vanquish too (car had to be a 2+2) the dealer was keen to point out that the DB9 was a much more modern Aston, in that it drove better, the gearbox wuld be less of a Pain, but when it came to look at the Vanquish, theres just something about it still, its presence, the sense of majesty round it, the way it feels inside (rear space isn't great, but it does its job) the dealer made it clear it was the absolute top of the range and i think thats what sold it!
my uncle now has a stunning '03 Vanquish, not a stupid idea as so far it has been an awesome machine

My Vanquish was reliable, so I wouldn't favour a DB9 on reliability grounds.
The DB9 is, in certain respects, a better car than the Vanquish as it's a genuine automatic and the interior is sorted. However if the paddle shift is acceptable to you and you can live with an only 'OK' interior, then the Vanquish beats the DB9 in being the muscular, angry, taught and evolved beast that the more feminine DB9 could never be.
Have you driven a Vanq? Get a whizz in one and see what you think. It's not a get in and go car like the DB9.
A good quality S will fetch £110-£130k at the moment, so they're relatively inexpensive (I can't believe I just used that expression). There's one parked outside my office at the moment - it's just plain naughty looking.

I have had 2 Vanqs one standard , one with the Sports dynamic pack and now have a Vanquish S . I have doen over 35k miles in them and never had an issue. DB9 though nice is a 2 seater and is not an event to drive like the Vanq. Go for an 03 car on wards and ensure they have the latest gearbox software and you should have no problem. If you can stretch to an "S" go for it as it is awesome and a real joy to drive , gearbox well sorted. No better looking or sounding car in my view and I am lucky enough to have a number of other supercars to choose from.
I'm also a repeat Vanquish owner, currently having two 2007 beauts. Never had an issue with either S or pre-S, going through the various upgrades to gearbox software and a couple of other minor issues such as the relocation of a couple of hose clips, etc in the earlier cars. The longest run I've had was 3.5k kms, the only problem being a slightly loose n/s mudguard...probably attacked by a rock at 230km/h...
The DBS has only highlighted the Vanquish's presence in Aston Martin's history. Don't worry about S or pre-S as both are exceptionally rewarding to own and drive if properly maintained.
The replacement of the Vanquish is the next target and I am sure that the current duo will not object in getting a young pup of a monster amongst them.
