I am thinking of buying a DB7 but I am unsure of the main differences between models, I know there was a 6 and a v12 but what is the i6 that I have seen mentioned?
I have a budget of around 45k in some ways I favour the later v12 as I guess it will have more driver comforts but wonder about the running /servicing costs.
Whichever model I buy it will be a convertible but any thoughts as to which I would be pleased to hear.
I would add I do like driver comfort high on my list and reliability.

The i6 is the 'in-line' 6 cylinder DB7, built between 1994 and 1999. They then launched the V12-engined DB7 Vantage and quietly stopped the i6. The i6 is the Jag engine with a supercharger the top end worked on by TWR.

For your budget you should be able to get a nice Vantage. Lots of information on the AMOC forum under Bloxham; the place where they were built.

I have a vantage volante as a weekend car and have found it very reliable for the past 2 years nothing has gone wrong with it or needed replacing. I have it on a 3000m insurance policy which only cost about £450 with agreed value through Hagerty Insurance. Servicing averages £5-600 a go.I use a trickle charger on the battery when it is garaged.Good luck with your search for the right car.A sports exhaust is a must - they sound like a spitfire flying past.

You can buy a very late Vantage for that in Top condition as mentioned before, stretch a few grand more and possibly a GT, which apparently is a huge step above the standard Vantage. Its also been heavily suggested in the past that if you are able to afford a Vantage over the i6, go for the Vantage.

£45k will get you a very good vantage. To do the GT suspension and brake upgrade at the factory costs about £10k if you really want to do it. I had it done a few years ago on mine and I'd recommend the suspension but not bother with the brakes. You can't get the lighter clutch except on the last engines - I was told it wouldn't fit mine (2000 W) and the GT gEar box has slightly different ratios to give the illusion of more power in the mid-range, but it's not that big a deal, especially in automatics.

If I were you I'd keep an eye on the ads here and at AMOC there are some properly looked after and used cars in beautiful condition in your budget.
